unemployment
6 hours and counting
and i no longer
have a place to
be
a race to run
a desk piled
high with wasted trees
day-dreams and
a waste of me
a person might think i should be
more hysterical
more desperate
more mired in the muck of self-doubt and
fear
it isn't that these moments
haven't been visiting from time to time
as the last few hours
of my employment slip
toward unfettered hours
but at the moment
i see more than
the walls of my cubicle
and timecard
and voicemail indicator flashing red
red
red
life blood
lost red
i'm dreaming up a
new dream
where my hours
belong to me
in service of
community
working toward leaving
my little corner better
than i hoped it to be
beyond the cubicle walls
and dead sea scrolls
of days sales outstanding
adding machine tapes
sunshine squad's
team corporate
morale building nonsense
in an odd sort of a way
i'm breathing
again
hopeful
while what was my
life becomes cinders
around me
in the slow burn
of the last two months
ashes
smoke
in a beautiful lumbering blaze
just close enough
that i can just
about
taste it
fresh
clean
air
crisp
diamond
snow

Climb it!
You say you'd like to see me try,
Climb it!
You pick the place and I'll choose the time
And I'll climb
The hill in my own way
just wait a while, for the right day
And as I rise above the treeline and the clouds
I look down hear the sound of the things you said today
Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd, smiling
Nothing waits, the magistrate turns 'round, frowning
I know the fool who wears the crown
Go down in your own way
And everyday is the right day
And as you rise above the fearlines in the frown
You look down
Hear the sound of the faces in the crowd" - Pink Floyd
Climb that mountain, sweet pea!
I know your new dream is a beautiful dream and purely selfless. You will rise above the unemplyment line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know why but for some reason "Fearless" popped into my head after reading your poem and so, I felt the need to include it here.
Shimmering, sunny, shiny smiles to you, to all!
So many enjoyable reads in here! It's wonderful and freeing to let one's creativity fly! Weeeehaaawww!
