The corpse of our love

Rotting away
black
moldy
decayed
The corpse of our love is beginning to smell
the stench is brutal
it painfully lingers
turning each breath
into one of regret
almost too much to take
my stomach turns

Where can we put this?
There is not a spot in the ground
that should be burdened
disgusting, rechid thing
It's hard to believe
this was once alive
breathing, thriving

Hurry!
We must hide it!
Before others find it
and become infected
with it's fatal aroma

You take one end
I'll take the other
let's bury this thing, one way or another
hold your breath
let's make this quick
first..let's chop it up
into little pieces
put it in this box
anchor attached
let it sink
down
down
way down
to the bottom of the sea
no longer you
no longer me
be at peace
no longer felt
inhaled
seen
Perhaps in time
it will be
washed clean

I love it. It's not only creative for a poem, but could also be turned into lyrics. After reading your thread about AiC and your love for them also, I can see their type of style going with it.

    This stands out:

    Hurry!
    We must hide it!
    Before others find it
    and become infected
    with it's fatal aroma

Often I've wanted to do the same...take away the pain that it brings into the world.

Thanks guys! I'm actually pretty proud of this one. It's feelings from a year or so ago (love gone bad, can you tell? ;) ) but I truely feel it's something we can all relate to.

Thanks Nothingbetter! Lyrics? AIC huh? Awesome. Wow, what a great compliment. :) That means a lot. It certainly is dark. I'm glad you love it. That part that stands out to you- basically I see it as the pain/scars left over from past relationships...if they aren't dealt with properly how they can seep into/corrupt all others. It's definitely important to deal with yourself and these emotions, heal, get yourself back to that better place before you can even begin to share yourself again with someone else.

Anyways, thanks again guys. :) Glad you feel it.

you do have a way with words!
    You ask me to enter
But then You make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
    To what You got
When all You've got is hurt
    ----
    Underneath this smile lies everything
All my hopes and anger, pride and shame

It's honestly one of the poems that has hit me more on this forum. It's very touching. I love the dark stuff.

  • I read this one yesterday and I didn't have a chance to respond but I thought it was awesome! :) I love this part:

    "You take one end
    I'll take the other
let's bury this thing, one way or another
    hold your breath
    let's make this quick
    first..let's chop it up
    into little pieces
    put it in this box
    anchor attached
    let it sink"

I also like the idea of the last thought---that "perhaps in time it will be washed clean". I can imagine this freakish, cast-off angry mass at the bottom of the sea just being picked clean to the bone! And I wonder, if it is at peace. Very enjoyable read! :)
