Nails Against The Machine?

Rumors have begun to surface that Nine Inch Nails' upcoming mid-April North American amphitheater tour will also feature Rage Against The Machine on the bill. Thus far, band frontman Trent Reznor has only hinted in recent interviews that the tour will be with another well-known band and that he is as yet unable to officially announce it.

I was watching an interview with Trent yesterday and he mentioned a big name, tell me this wouldnt be great?

That would be sweet... I hope NIN will be doing the light show they did at Lollapalooza. I'd love to see that again when I wasn't so exhausted.

Similar note... I bought tickets to see the Hold Steady in Chicago in January and it says Tom Morello is on the bill as well. Anyone know anything about that? Is he opening or playing with the band? I didn't know he had any solo material.

  • 1. the NIN Hotline debunked this rumor.

    2. NIN will no longer be doing the Lights In The Sky lightshow. It ended with Josh and Allesandro exiting the band. If you got to see it, consider yourself lucky.

Absolutely blew me away. I'd never seen them live but caught them last month in Greensboro and it was incredible.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

Damn. Was it an amicable split? Or a bitter one? Is that why they've said they won't release a dvd of it?

Totally amicable. Freese has a 3rd baby on the way in January and wants to be home and be a dad for a while, and Alessandro wants to move on musically. I don't know if you've heard any of his Modwheelmood stuff. I haven't heard much, but what I've heard tells me he is quite talented and creative in his own right, and it seems only natural that he'd want to move on and work on his own material at one point.

The DVD issue was addressed by Trent on his blog on NIN.com. He had it set up with James' Cameron's team to film the LITS show in 3-D, but he needed funding, and approached Interscope, who dragged and dragged before finally saying no. Then he got other funding, but it was too late. Since Josh and Ally are leaving, and Trent is changing the way the show will be in 09, there was no way to do the filming. However, interestingly, there is a fan DVD project going on. A lot of people went to Vegas with the intent of getting good footage of that show from as many angles as possible, and some very talented people have gotten good footage. (Check out this guy Chaonotic's footage on youtube - it is amazing and HD - well here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZpRLGQ9 ... re=channel - watch in hd if you have a good enough connection). If you are interested, or have footage to contribute, you can go to echoingthesound.org, or thisoneisonus.org. Trent has also said we can expect a 'small holiday gift', and it will be something awesome. (2 years ago we got Closure on DVD).

  • this fan made DVD sounds like it'll really be something! just started digging through the thread on echoingthesound... why can't PJ fans ever seem to have that same collaborative success? alot of nice solo acts around here but ya never see the same kindof creativity and effort as with NIN folk

cant wait to see what the holiday gift is :)

    that video is amazing!

it made me think, has anyone else ever wondered what kind of music trent will be making when he is old and grey? i can't picture him not making music and the thought of an old man playing the angry angsty songs that nin has would be funny to me=p hopefully it's like Ghosts or something.

Trent is a geek himself. He attracts geeks. I mentioned the Closure DVD. It can't be officially proved that he released it but everyone knows he did. It was a HUGE torrent, and it needed a double layer DVD to burn (I've never gotten around to burning it - I just watch it off my hard drive, because I didn't have a DVD burner at the time), and people had issues with learning how to burn a file like this, discovering that if they had an old hard drive, the disc sectors weren't the proper size, and there was something to do with old vs. new disc formatting, the details of which I've forgotten, so there was much discussion on reformatting external hard drives, etc., The reason I bring this up is NIN fans, because of what Trent puts out there, are used to working together. The ARG (Year Zero game) could never have taken place if people couldn't work together. There were people sharing knowledge of data encryption, sound file manipulation (images were found IN sound files)... He has released multi track files of much of his music, which he has remixed, and encourages others to remix. He has a whole section of his website dedicated to this - you can upload mixes you do yourself, you can listen, rate and download mp3s of remixes that others have done. So anyway, people are used to working together and figuring things out I think. That's my take on it.

I follow them both - fortunately only one seems to be active at a time. I'll try to remember to PM you; if I don't, I'm sure I'll post something about it in this thread, or whatever NIN thread is going on at the time.

I heard TR announced that Ed would be opening up for NIN in '09 after he heard Ed's cover of Hurt and was totally humbled and flattered by the performance.
