Groovin' music

I'm making a tape for me and my friends to groove to. We each of us all like groovin music like marvin gaye and justin timberlake and maybe a little bit of stevie wonder. I need something that sounds good, that carries well, in a basement setting so I don't want nothing that's too echoey to begin with because these walls in Hal's basement really bouncy-bounce around the songs sometimes so that it starts to interfere with the groove, which ain't good, man.

So I need to know some groovin tunes b/c me and my friends and i haven't really gotten together in Hal's basement in a long time to groove.

thanks

What about the John Butler Trio?

Funky Tonight, Zebra, Better Than are all grooving songs
    “Do not postpone happiness”
    (Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

“Put yer good money on the sunrise”
    (Tim Rogers)
  • Most Beck records would do, imo...Guero especially
  • Joe Cocker is one of my personal favs

    tenacious d - double team

any tune that has the lyric,"put on a cool '70's groove", has to be on this list
  • “Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you’ve got about a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies — ‘God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.’” - Kurt Vonnegut
  • Sly & the Family Stone - If You Want Me To Stay
A Tribe Called Quest - Check The Rhime
    Ohio Players - Fopp

The T. Rex suggestion is pretty good, too. Check out Mambo Sun off Electric Warrior. Very groovin guitar riff on that one.
