Taking a band on the road is mad expensive.
For that price they should rethink how much crap they are hauling around.
Laser light shows, veri-lights, curtains, props, 5 people to wash their clothes.
    But they will get it.

i know i can stand it that bands charge that much. i know a lead singer of a band that i love and he charged $90 for a solo gig not even the whole band. maybe you have heard of the band "Pearl Jam"

i don't remember anyone really asking who Eddie thought he was. going on tour costs alot of money an dthe band supports many peopel who are behind teh scenes. do you expect the peopel in teh back to work for free?

There's only a few bands I'd pay that kind of money to see...Coldplay isn't one of them.
  • I saw Coldplay last week in Dallas and paid $97.50 per ticket which were the most expensive price level for that show. It is a decent amount to throw down for a ticket, but if you are a fan of Coldplay, you are not getting ripped off. Their show is very entertaining and a lot of work goes into it. There is quite a bit of production, as there should be to warrant such high prices. I won't go in to the details because I wouldn't want to take away from anyone who is hoping to catch them on this tour. The show is great and the band sounds amazing as well (at least they did in Dallas). The setlist skews heavily towards the new record, which shouldn't really surprise anyone. Yes the tickets are expensive, but they are worth it if you are interested in seeing this band play live. The prices kind of price the casual fan out of the mix, so unless you want to sit at the back of the arena or stadium, I doubt you find many people who are just going because they have nothing better to do.

Overall it is a good show though and I certainly didn't feel ripped off paying over $100 per ticket after fees.

actually, a ton of people brought up the cost of EV tickets. many of these bands are only selling out/selling well because brokers buy up the tickets, so it looks like shows are selling well. I think a lot of people, at least in the US< are having to re-think how many shows and which shows they go to. I know I have recently for the Pumpkins ($75), which I bought a single day of show, and Oasis ($70), which I am waiting to buy day of show for cheap because I know they wont even come close to selling out Allstate. I skipped Coldplay all together this year because of the pricey ticket.

Why would you go see coldplay when you can see the band they rip off for half the price?

Just saw Coldplay last saturday night and I must say they put on an amazing show!!!! I'm not a die hard fan by any means but It gave me a greater appreciation for the band and Viva La Vida. Although the show was great I couldn't help but feel they were in it more for the money than the music with their $90+ tickets (which I never would have payed. I'm just glad mine didn't cost me a dime) and their 1 hour 20 minute set. I think i would have felt a little weird had i paid 97.50 for a ticket. Seemed a little lame considering I saw Metallica play a full 2 hour set at the same venue 2 weeks prior for $67.

Sorry to be the third to quote this but your statement is incorrect

fine people :) i was just trying to make a point but it didn't work. but the OP said something about media whores concerning Coldplay and i think that was low.

i personally understand why peopel woudl be upset abotu ticket prices but my opinion is that there is so much that goes into having a tour cost wise and lets be realistic bands are not getting as much money as they used to becuase of CD sales going down that they also have make money and tours is where bands make their money.

personally, i like going to concerts and having a great show, i like lights and that shit and if i want that i have to pay for it. some might not like it but sadly bands can't have 2 shows going at the same time.

haha, yeah sorry about that dude! No harm meant.

Tickets are way too much in my mind but people will pay that for them which drives the prices up for all of us.

Yes, touring is the way most bands make their dough. However, I think we should be complaining about 40-60 dollar t-shirts instead. The cost of gas, travel and all that has come up a ton over the years....not really the cost of a hanes cotton tee.

there i agree with you on T-shirts, they have gotten to cost way too much. the sad part is that the T-shirts design are so boring now. even Pearl jam T-shirts are boring in my opinion (feel free to jump on me for that)

  • Haven't seen the Pearl Jam t-shirts, so I can't comment.

Arena acts are always expensive, but now as we have a credit crunch or an economic meltdown, many people can't afford to see a concert. Especially when you have a family to feed, a car to run, mortgage to pay, concerts are going to be the last on your luxury list.
The crew needs paying, concert promoters, etc need to earn their slice of the pie, but can the punters, the bottom of the chain, sustain all this?

Music is changing - it's easier to get a DVD of the show now than to travel miles to see it at astronomical prices.

The only thing that is going to be missed is the experience.

I bought 'In Rainbows' and "Viva la Vida' today. What a coincidence!

That's a crazy ticket price. I don't think I'd pay over $100 per ticket to see ANY band. That said, if the dvd they released a few years back was any indication, they're a hell of a live band.

  • I've personally been cutting back on arena rock shows for the fact that the tickets are grossly over-priced.. I make exceptions with my favorites, like PJ (West Palm Beach and Tampa this year.. when I live in IL).. But anyway, broaden your musical taste by checking out shows of non-radio hyped acts.. I've seen quite a few shows this year under the $20.00 mark.. They are original artists (no cover songs), you get to see them in an intimate (small) setting, you usually get to meet them after the show or hanging out inside the venue before.. and the beers are usually less than 3 bucks a bottle.. It's a no brainer.. Get hooked on the next big thing before they are the next big thing.. Good, new, live music is out there.. Go find it!

fans are not made to pay for it they choose to pay for it. i don't go to too many concerts and i enjoy them (of course i want the quality of music to be good, that goes withotu saying) btu i also want to be entertained not just by my ears but also my eyes. thats just me.

  • I have to say, I have a best friend that got me hooked on this band, so I follow them just the way I do Pearl Jam, Radiohead, and Muse. The last thing these guys want to be is media "whores" as the OP says. They really seem like genuine good people. They are down to earth and not full of themselves, just like the other bands I mentioned in the beginning of the post. I think Chris Martin gets a bad rep because he hates interviewers and likes to be a bit of a smart alick to them. So he comes off as conceted sometimes. But in my experiences in watching them and seeing them live, they are genuine and a very good live band! In the top 3 of concerts I have seen (Pearl Jam in Columbia and front row for Radiohead at Lolla.) They get too much crap I believe.
