Halloween Concert Dilemma!

i already have tickets to see kings of leon here in chicago on halloween. today i got an email saying lupe fiasco is playing a show here on halloween as well! i don't know who to see. i saw kings of leon at lolla in 2007 and they were fantastic, but rather similar to the album. i'm pretty damn excited about their new album too. but lupe fiasco was the highlight of lollapalooza this year. he completely stole the weekend and i only caught about 4 songs from him. i don't know what to do.
and like that... he's gone.

    Kings.

Lupe would be cool to see but I'd much rather see an up and coming rock band just after their new album was released, than seeing a rapper no one will be listening to in 5 years.

    Why? Because he's a rapper?

lupe's pretty phenomenal and i think he's here to stay. kings of leon have 4 albums... how is that up and coming? they've already arrived!
    and like that... he's gone.
  • if you saw KOL already go see the band you haven't seen. KOL will tour a lot for this record.

I like KOL as much as the next guy/gal on this board but sometimes seeing someone new is what you need!
  • Love KOL, but Lupe is one of my favorite artists and puts on a fantastic show...when i saw him the latest time in January he played for 2 1/2 hours...UNHEARD of for a rapper

    i say KOL
but lupe's one of the only rappers i respect, and i think he's great

whatever concert you decide to see should be amazing, though!!
  • This made me reflect to back to seeing Alice In Chains on halloween in Providence on the reunion tour or whatever. Man they played like 3 hours and it was unbelievable. I love Layne as much as the next guy, but Duvall is an amazing replacement and I would buy anything the band puts out with him.
Didnt mean to hijack the thread...

Not in the US. None of their albums were popular so far. Sure, they sold a lot of records compared to most bands out there who don't even make it, but they are definitely not at the top of people's lists.

And in rap a phenomenal rapper comes along every couple of years and then is gone just like that.

No because I don't think he has enough talent to stick around in the rap game.

I dunno, Puff Daddy has stuck around a long time considering he has no discernible talent beyond taking credit for other people's productions and leeching off his dead so-called friend.

historically, lack of talent combined with business savvy has always outlasted talent ;) and diddy hasn't made a rap album in a decade as far as i know. but lupe's got both i think, and chicago is his home town so he will probably bring it that night.
    and like that... he's gone.
  • I will be going to the KOL halloween concert. I would never see Lupe over KOL.

Ha. I know he hasn't made any records himself for years but he's still shitting out lame R&B records fronted by moderately attractive females :D

ah, didn't know that. his only decent moment was showing up on 'hate me now' with nas. he even managed to ruin a few songs on the otherwise brilliant 'life after death.'

riot_mac... know anyone who might want a pair of tickets if i decide against it? i plan to buy tickets to both and sell the pair i decide not to use.

you're asking a Pearl Jam Message Board whether you should see Kings of Leon or Lupe Fiasco... seriously?

Why not? Plenty of us here like hip-hop. I'm no big fan of Lupe but I'd rather see him than KoL.

I'm not saying no one likes Lupe, I'm saying the majority on the board would easily vote for KOL...

true. but the discussion helps me work it out.

i love kings of leon. their last album is one of my favs from the last few years. their new one looks to be just as good. but when i saw them at lolla, they were very good but also pretty similar to the album. i'm sure it would be a fantastic show, but lupe blew me away with his lolla set and him playing his hometown on halloween? it has the potential to be pretty epic.
    and like that... he's gone.
