RACE IN - just plain not exciting, boring to me.

TONTO - good video, and somewhat exciting. not digging the vocals. i need something more to connect with. good instrumentation though. nice.

ATLAS - i heard this song a year ago, when i first downloaded MIRRORED ugh. i think it sucks. i hate the vocals. its like a little march of elves all working hard together to get the job done.

overall, listening to them a year later, i think the lead singer needs to sing or not do anything at all. i find the "vocals" silly. i need a connection as stated. that being said, if he did be quiet, this music would be great to throw on every once in a while to groove to. i think it would find a niche. its pretty tribal and i like that. i guess im still not getting these guys. they are playing here on tuesday, its a small club and not sold out, if this grows on me, maybe i will see them, ive heard good things about the live shows......

The thing is this Battles isn't a vocalist-type band. The vocals are just there as an extension of the rhythms/riffs/grooves.

They may sound silly, but seeing them live with him playing guitar, keyboard, and singing in a mic while pressing up and down on his whammy pedal is insane. BATTLES is a musicians band. They write crazy time signatures and are loop masters.

Their live show is a force to be reckoned with. It's something see them all up there each playing two insturments at the same time, minus the drummer, and covered in sweat but they're so focused with an energy thats rarely heard in today's rock bands.

Also check this song, the vocals play a big part in this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwpdt77ACuM&feature=related

i dont know about that, but i will say that any skepticism i had going into the show was quickly forgotten last night, with the opening number.

these guys can play, and you werent kidding when you say they play two instruments at once. the place i saw them at was packed. lots of energy. the drummer is an absolute machine.

my previous post about atlas is pretty inacurate now. seeing that song go off live the way it did was magic....the crowd went crazy, the track sounded so good.

Im not a fan of the heavy keyboard stuff, as it does sound like a little kid is bashing the keys at times, sounds a little rinky dink too. but the other stuff was great.

worth seeing these guys, i have a 3 minute vid of atlas i will post on youtube later tonight. glad i went.

  • No, the most exciting ROCK music right now is being made by either The Thermals or Dead Confederate.

ya man, i really felt like i was watching the evolution of the rock band. Loop machines, multiple instruments, wordless vocals. It's really strange music to wrap your head around and when you see it live, its an incredible primal tribal feeling. They rocked......note every song is for me, like i say, but i really dug when they were firing on all cylanders. Actually some pretty awesome moments last night.
