Did anyone go see Chris Cornell and Timbaland at the Fillmore on 10/31/2008?

Any thoughts?

I went to the Cornell show last night. He played his new album in its entirety. I wasn't expecting that, but after seeing the stage setup, and hearing the first song, then I got the feeling he would play mostly new stuff.

His new stuff is ok. I prefer all the other stuff, but it's not bad.

One benefit of playing at the Fillmore is that he went into the crowd several times, 4-6 times at least. I was close enough to touch him, but was just unlucky, lol. He reached for the people around me usually.

The only older songs he played were during the encore, "Burden In My Hand", and "Disappearing One".

Anyone got a setlist for either act?

  • Too bad you had a Scream show. The non-Scream shows feature a bunch of cool nuggets like No Attention, Wooden Jesus, Like Suicide, and Reach Down.

Yeah I would have preferred that.

well I went to the solo show in Santa Cruz AND the show last nite at the Fillmore.....

the crowds at both shows FILLED the rooms with screams and everyone had a great time as much as the guys on the stage.

the SCREAM show surprised me.....I mean how much I ended up liking/loving it....to each their own but I'm really looking forward to the new album now that I've heard all the songs......

Yeah, Cornell's new stuff is ok, for what it was trying to do, he did a pretty good job.

It's almost like Cornell is a split-personality or something.

Half his concerts are the Scream/Verizon/Timbaland concerts, which completely suck.

The other half is a set list full of amazing songs. Strapping on the electric guitar. Basically epitomizing coolness and everything we love about the "real Cornell".

He's goin' in 2 different directions.
  • I hate everything about this new album. However, I'm still unsure why people are going to these concerts confused. Are they not advertised correctly...?

  • I'm wondering if the shows that are billed as Chris & Timbaland playing together are mostly Scream shows and the shows billed as Chris Cornell solo shows are more a good mix of Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave & Chris's solo stuff. Kind of makes sense. The shows are put into those two categories on Chris's website.

I'm contemplating seeing Cornell's solo shows in Ontario cause I saw him with his new backing band 4 times in the last year and they were some of the best concerts I've ever seen - played 3 hours - went back and dug out some of the really old stuff - and played a song which I requested - Say Hello 2 Heaven. Plus his new band are super talented and like to meet/interact with the fans. And they usually play really small venues now.
...And he who forgets will be destined to remember.

...I swear I never took it for granted. Just thought of it now.
  • The Seattle show is the last of the scheduled Chris/Timba shows where they are playing primarly just "Scream". All the following Canadian dates are billed as Chris's solo shows which by all accounts have featured fantastic setlists of music throughout his career.

Hmm, I didn't notice that before, thanks.

I guess I'll have to look at how the concert is billed next time he comes around my way.

Finally a positive review! I knew the new songs would sound great played live. CC and the band even played burden in my hand plus disappearing one
    as an encore!

I asked this question before but no one has answered it. Again does anyone know if the cc solo tour for 2009 will include Timbaland? I ask this because the new CC cd will be released to coincide with the next Timbaland cd. Will
    2009 cc tour extend worldwide?

No one answered, because no-one knows. The small West Coast tour with Timbaland was a "record release" tour and it didn't actually coincide with anything, so who knows. The Timbaland dates were something like 7 shows. Do you post at the CC.com, why don't you ask over there?

Oh I guess I'm getting ahead of myself. No, I only post here because the atmosphere is much nicer. Thanks anyway!

  • Now, I've never been one to throw this around before but I feel it is necessary for this thread:

  • I have a question. Is CC going to do a European tour - and if so, is it solo or with Timberland?

i don't know if anyone can come up with the answers because the American tours are such a mystery.

I would love to see him solo.

    Cheers for your help...

It's no mystery that Europe has a huge dance club scene. I think he should start in Paris and work his way around. He should do it with Timbaland, because they love him over there. They should do it in one of Chris's bro in laws clubs, they probably would totally embrace it. Ofcourse they won't, it makes too much sense.
  • I'm not really into dance music...I like the dance that Pendulum produces with a hard rock/progressive feel but other than that...not interested. It's sad that the radio stations over here play hip hop and r&b.

I had to go to America to discover some good sounds and discovered country, blues, rock and alternative. Radio stations in the States have the edge over the UK.
It is not the people who like dance orientated music, it's the record companies and radio stations. Most of us are into heavy rock.

My friends and I are into Pearl Jam and are sadden to hear most acts are turning to dance. Money definitely controls art.

As far as I could remember, he mentioned about a major world tour including europe, one of his interviews (in july I think).

These are what cornell said: "Tour format may be.... 1 hour of the full album, then playing songs from the back catalogue."..

so a lot happened, and I can say, I wouldn't interested , if he offered me a special show..seriously..
