Just curious with records becoming more popular again and a push for audiophile quality recordings, will the 5 LP Edition of Death Magnetic rumored at 2000 copies shoot up in value like Benny Hall?

    Probably, though I don't really think Death Magnetic is worth it.

    What makes you say that? I don't know much Metallica, but a really big band right? No value in their records?

  • Five?! What the fuck did they do, put one song on each side?
    If that's the case I will take Side A of record 1 please. That's it.

    The last four songs are the best songs on the album though.
    {if (work != 0) {
    work = work + 1;
    sleep = sleep - work * 10;}
    else if (work >= 0) {
    reality.equals(false);
    work = work +1;
    }system("pause");
    return 0;}

    My thoughts exactly....Five???? That's about 2 hours or more worth of music....CDs hold about 75 minutes per disc.

    I honestly don't really like anything but This Was Just Your Life. I'm still giving it a chance though. Unforgiven III is the next best, but it pales in comparison to my other favorite Metallica songs.

    The standard album is 2 LPs @ 33 1/3, but the deluxe version was 5 LPs cut @ 45rpm.

    45 RPM???? When's the 78 RPM edition hitting the streets??? :rolleyes:

    Value in the sense that it is a very limited release for a big band. But it's not a Metallica album I'd spend a ton of cash on. It's good, but not great. Master of Puppets, on the other hand...

    It is actually not that unusual. My In Rainbows box set LP's are 45rpm.

    As far as the collectability is concerned, I think part of the mystique of Benny is that a) it is a unique recording of a once in a life time live show, and b) only available through the fanclub, and c) it was originally only $40 making it reasonably accessible for the lucky few that got one.

    I don't think a set that costs over $100 for an a regular studio album is capable of creating the same kind of buzz or demand. Especially when they are offering the signifcantly cheaper 2LP version at the same time.

    Very good points noting the differences. I've purchased, played, and collected records for 20 years now ( makes me feel old!) Anyways, I was really successful selling of Depeche Mode records a few years ago on Ebay and my thing now is collecting 3,4, and 5 LP sets. They include PJ, NIN, Metallica and hopefully my list will grow. I'm also into 2 LP sets of colored vinyl when each LP is colored differently like White Stripes and Marilyn manson. Long live vinyl!
