OK Computer

Everyone here is missing the point. Appreciation of music is subjective but the music itself is not. It's fine to prefer The Bends to OK Computer but it is objectively NOT a better album.
This fact is supplied to you for free with my kind regards.

I couldn't have said it any better myself. Just beware of the "you're an arrogant ass" posts. Don't listen to them because you are 100% correct on your assesment."All the rusted signs we ignore throughout our lives"--Ed0 -
TallGuyCM wrote:OK Computer's amazing, don't get me wrong, but it has one critical flaw IMO - "Climbing Up The Walls". By far my least favorite song in Radiohead's entire catalog. The inclusion of that one song on the album is what puts The Bends higher up in my book.
WHAT!?!?!? Climbing up the Walls is my favorite song on the album.....to each their own I supposeIn my world everyone is a pony,
and they all eat rainbows and pooh butterflies!0 -

One guy: "Nah nah, music is subjective, the last Kid Rock album is better than Mozart's Requiem, it is because I prefer it!"
another guy: "Here's a wacky idea chief, maybe Kid Rock is just more to your taste, he's not better than Mozart, if you think that then I hear they have a cell waiting in Broadmoor for you"."I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -
Yeah, people are going to prefer the more mainstream generic rock of The Bends, but OK Computer stands alone as a true masterpiece of our times.....
Like Jeremy1012 already stated, it simply is a better album.....it's richer in ideas, it flows as an album.....'The more I studied religions the more I am convinced that man never worshipped anything but himself.' - Sir Richard Francis Burton0 -

Nah, he wasn't arrogant because he didn't assume to know why people prefer one album over another. You told people why they like an album and gave two insulting reasons.
And by the way OK Computer gets more play at my house than The Bends.0 -
Jeremy1012 wrote:Oh I don't care if anyone says I'm an arrogant ass, there's no arrogance involved, it's not like I'm a rabid Radiohead fan who thinks OK Computer is the best album ever, I've no vested interest in this, I just think it should be clarified that OK Computer IS definitely a better album

If a person said they thought Pablo Honey was a BETTER album than OK Computer (not that they prefer it mind, that's ok too, although a little odd in my opinion), any sentient being with an ear for good music would laugh at them. I don't see why the line should therefore be blurred between two albums that are critically praised and fan-favourites like OK Computer and the Bends. It should still be possible to say which is the better album without earnest fans pulling out the subjectivity card."I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -
Jeremy1012 wrote:Why? It might be an exaggeration but it's an extension of the same ideal. Why if some music can be objectively appraised as being superior (ie Mozart over Kid Rock) can we not also appraise other music in the same way? It's neither here nor there to me if someone prefers The Bends but OK Computer is a richer artistic creation than The Bends, people can tell me that's just my opinion if they want, I'll disagree and tell them it's a fact, in just the same way as Mozart's Requiem is a better piece of music than All Summer Long, even though I know a guy who would much prefer the latter. There's nothing wrong with that, he's just more fond of the inferior work.

It's just such an exaggeration. I really just don't think the gap between ok and the bends is that big. And to bring Mozart into the conversation, you can't Mozart to any modern rock album that will be forgotten by the next generation.0 -

OK Computer is Radiohead's masterpiece, and it deserves the title, but guitar based alternative rock doesnt get any better than The Bends. Nothing on there is more generic than Karma Police, Airbag, or Paranoid Android.0 -
I've just picked up In Rainbows since I loved OKC so much, liking that a lot too. Thanks EPOTTSIII!

Correction - there is nothing on The Bends that can touch Paranoid Android...'The more I studied religions the more I am convinced that man never worshipped anything but himself.' - Sir Richard Francis Burton0 -
hahaha omg fools.
climbing up the walls is the worst track on ok computer? die."Last time I think we played that song here was like, a long time ago, and there was a bonfire in the back and people were like throwing each other into it...very exciting days but a huge fucking relief that that's not how it is tonight..." Played out? Maybe. Generic? You are out of your mind. Especially Android (which by the way is my bathroom break song). It's the anti-generic anthem of the 90's."All the rusted signs we ignore throughout our lives"--Ed0 -

Well here's another insulting reason: You still like Guns n' Roses. Music Subjectivity 101, Rule #35 states "No person shall comment on the masterpiece OK Computer if they are a fan of Axl Rose"."All the rusted signs we ignore throughout our lives"--Ed0 -
I have to say The Bends is better than OK Computer after just listening to the two. And if memory serves, I enjoy Kid A much more than OK also.
I have this argument with my best friend all the fucking time. He always says the depth and songwriting is beautiful and superior on OK. He brings up flow also, but I will not give him that. All three (The Bends-Kid A) flow seamlessly. I think the instrumentation and arrangments are much more interesting and pleasing on The Bends. OK is pretty depressing at times
I will say that Paranoid Android is better than most of The Bends. That doesn't give OK the win by default in the slightest though.0 -
freaking amazing.
...that's all.0 -

When did I ever say that I still like Guns n' Roses? I haven't even heard Chinese Democracy...0
