I am not surprised at all about this. After not selling out last year this will definitely bring in a huge crowd. How many set do you think they will play? My guess is two over the course of the festival, then some of the guys will probably play in the superjam also. Could be sweet!

  • yea, i think this is a good move on phish's part. i mean, theyve been gone for a while, and this brings them back to being "the" jam band to see. if i was anywhere near, and older(im 16) i would be there. but no, i have abide by my parent's rules and stay here.

but if the Dead are there too, im sneaking out. i wouldn't miss that in a million years.

  • Jam bands are musical masturbation. The only good thing about Phish is you can go get a beer and take a leak and they'll still be playing the same song when you get back.
    one foot in the door
the other foot in the gutter
    sweet smell that they adore
    I think I'd rather smother

I just feel like it's a bad move on Bonnaroo's part..I mean Phish have such a devout following but it seems like a step down from such draws as Pearl Jam, Metallica, Jack Johnson, Kanye (boo) etc...I don't know it might be that I'm not that big of a fan but TWO nights? come on...

    Step down???

More like a huge step up. Bonnaroo used to be a huge hippie show, they totally ruined it with kanye and metallica last year. Pearl Jam is an exception. They are probably the only mainstream rock band that can be fit in with hippie bands because of their uniqueness to individual shows and jamming out.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't care that metallica was on the bill, I would've caught them live. But for the people who have been to every bonnaroo since it was launched, seeing metallica isnt that cool.

Bringing phish will be back to the original style of the show.

How is Phish a step down?

Without Phish, Bonnaroo wouldn't exist. Plain & simple.

The Dead/Trey Anastasio/Widespread/Allman Brothers/DMB have headlined Bonnaroo for most of it's years. Although it has diversified in it's years, it has its roots in jam/hippie music, and they don't come bigger than Phish in that category. The former mentioned bands either helped create Phish (Dead/Allmans) or owe their career to Phish (Widespread/DMB) or are Phish (Trey).

From 1996-2004, Phish would throw festivals around the size of Bonnaroo (sometimes bigger) where they would be the only band to play (short of some small, second stage acts randomly).. They are the definitive Bonnaroo band. I wouldn't mind them headlining all 3 nights - if any band deserves it and could pull it off, it's them.

When another band can pull off Big Cypress, let me know. Until then, Phish has rightfully earned it's slot for headlining the biggest festival in the country two nights in a row.

Phish headlining two nights (I still think they'll be the Friday headliner with a late-night set on Saturday, with DMB/Beastie Boys/Rage being the other headliner) is possibly the biggest thing to happen to Bonnaroo in years. Possibly ever. A band this big and famous has never played Bonnaroo (at least in terms of Bonnaroo-oriented bands, but I'd argue Phish is bigger than any band to headline unless you consider The Dead the Grateful Dead.)

Ok then, I would just PREFER if Phish didn't headline two nights...hope that's better. I mean, there's no way I could counter such an insightful, well-thought out comment.
