I just listened to Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends again to give it one last chance before I deleted it from my iPOD and heres what I think...and mind you this is coming from someone whos seen them on EVERY tour including this tour..

The good:
Life in Technicolor
Cemetaries of London
Yes! (up until they do that restart of the song with the chanting)
Lovers in Japan (up to Reign of Love..unnecessary)
Death and All His Friends

The average:
Lost? (the drum beat sucks..the song in its acoustic form is great)
Viva La Vida
Violet Hill

The bad:
42
Strawberry Swing (wtf is this! terrible simply terrible)

I want to like this album...I really do but I have to say the album isnt that good..Yes! and Lovers in Japan could be classic without the outro filler but they could easily be put in the average category...theres only 3 songs I am crazy about and ones an instrumental...for now I'll keep it in hopes someone day these songs will grow on me

  • Look for the "Osaka Sun Mix" of Lovers In Japan...it's only slightly different from the album version, but more importantly, it doesn't have the "Reign Of Love" tag at the end.
  • I like this album a lot. It is 1000 times better than the pile of shit that was x&y. The drums are what make Lost! for me, it's my fav song on there. The version with Jay-z on the new ep kicks even more ass.
she was underwhelmed, if that's a word

So you really think a ballad-y song should have hip-hop sounding drums to it and clapping? Sounds overproduced...the acoustic version was just fine and now hearing that this song has another version with jay-Z just tells me what good ole Chris was going for..

I think it sounds great... gives a little soulful swing to a tune that otherwise would be another generic and boring Coldplay piano ballad.

Thats funny I'm thinking of deleting it from my Ipod as well. I don't hate Coldplay as much as some people but I don't care if I ever hear any of these songs again. A pretty weak album in my opinion.

I wont delete it, but I never listen to it.
very disappointing record it sounds forced and over produced

lose the pro tools and go back to writing great songs and melodies

So badly want to see them as im a massive parachutes fan but i doubt they play any of that now. From parachutes onwards they have gone very down hill imo. Also ticket prices are going to be horrific.
  • You either like Coldplay or you don't......................

Viva La Vida is a great album in my opinion, I've been a fan since the beginning.....

    It's X&Y I can't stand.....insipid album.....

  • I think its a decent album, much better played live IMO. I only think 2 songs are lame on the album: Lost and Viva La Vida. They seem way too poppy and completely targeted to sell records.

What was nice to hear was the songs from the Prospekts March EP. They should've exchanged a few of those with some from VLV to make it less commercial and much stronger. (minus the Jay-Z Lost fiasco)

I think Glass of Water is one of the best songs they've ever done.

That's why I listened to Rush of Blood to the Head. If I want that sound, I'll listen to that album. X&Y is identical which makes it a totally worthless album. I was pleased that they shook things up a bit with the new one, it gave me a reason to listen to the new album.

    I agree completely.....

    X&Y is very stale sounding.....

Viva La Vida is something new for them.....

Yes of course it's not groundbreaking in the grand scheme of things blah blah blah but it's a far more INTERESTING, moving and original album than X&Y.....

And Lost! is a fuckin' tune!

They only play "Yellow" on this tour, if that. Would it kill them to play "Sparks"? Really?

Luckily I got to see them on the Rush of Blood to the Head tour, so it was a good mix of the first 2 albums!

Every song should have hip hop drums. Thats just common sense.
