Those bands sound good to me. I've gone the last two years and to be honest, it's not that big a deal to me who headlines. I think some of the best times are finding the smaller bands and hitting up the tents (Mojave, Gobi, Sahara).

What an amazing place though, I've had some of the best times of my life there the last two years.

  • Lets face it, you can take the Smiths off the rumors list cuz it aint happening no matter how much money they throw at them.

I think they need to come back with a bang this year, they followed a really killer 07 with a really mediocre 08, thats not to say i wouldnt have loved to have gone in 08, you just need headliners to draw people in, basically Waters was the only really great headliner until they signed on Prince like a week before. I love portishead but headlining a 80,000 person festival on the Saturday?? Uh uh. The middle level acts are always great though so I'll be watching for the lineup for sure.

Does anyone know when the line up will be posted. Do you think it's the type of festival PJ would play?

  • MBV said they aren't playing...
Prodigy are in the UK the first day...
    Smiths are not playing...

    WS would be FUCKING awesome

Coachella is also the trend setter as far as lineup they will determine a good portion of Bonnaroos lineup...minus Phish and The Dead...

Understatement of the thread, for sure. I fell in love with the White Stripes 5 years ago at Coachella. Jack Was PISSED because he couldn't hear himself, and he channeled it all into a blistering fucking performance that left me a maniac fan, as I've been ever since.

    operation ivy?
  • The Smiths are a yearly rumor. So is My Bloody Valentine. I highly doubt either will be playing this year, either.

I would actually say PJ is a strong possibility. After they tore shit up at Bonnaroo last year, why not? 2009 looks like a tour year for them...and they basically popped Indio's concert cherry with their show there in 1993.

In addition to PJ, I would love to see any of the following: Eddie Vedder solo, Radiohead, Thom Yorke, R.E.M., The Arcade Fire, Wilco, Smashing Pumpkins, Tom Morello, Rage Against the Machine...

But the others were right. The true joy is wandering around during the day and discovering new music. Can't wait for this year's show!

  • Like I said earlier...

My Bloody Valentine said they are not playing...
The Smiths are a hell no...
The Prodigy are in the UK for the first day of Coachella...
Oasis is NOT playing...confirmed by someone close to the band...

there's a thread in the rumors section of the Coachella board about them ... and, how it won't happen ...

As for the Smiths, people need to let it go. It's not going to happen ... I would love it to happen, but, Morrissey will never, ever play with the Smiths again. It's like saying Faith No More will play ... again, as much as I and many others want it, it's not going to happen.

MBV .... I saw them a month or so age here in SF ... the show was .... AWFUL. More the venue's fault (Concourse Exhibition Hall), but, man, it was a loud wall of noise. I have never used earplugs in my life, but, I did that night ... and left a little early. Hoping they set things right and play 'chella.

With a new album due out, it would be nice if PJ restored their karma with the polo fields and made things right again (Shoe the Shoeless redux anyone?) ... I could see it happening.

some past bands with new albums (just released or coming out soon) that I could see showing ...

    The Futureheads
    The Kaiser Chiefs
    Andrew Bird
    Dandy Warhols

Three bands I'll "rumor" about ... all with new albums in early 2009 ...

Doves .... cancelled in 2005 ... man, I'd *love* this.

Wilco ... another band that cancelled on Coachella, new album next year.

Franz Ferdinand ... although, twice is enough, but, I just see it happening.

I saw Muse at the Concourse Exhibition Hall a few years ago, and it was TERRIBLE. Why would any band ever feel the need to play there? It's like a long, crowded hallway, and unless you're at the front or on a rail, you basically can't see shit. And the sound sucks.

When did Wilco cancel on Coachella?

When did Wilco cancel on Coachella?

2004, Jeff Tweedy was still dealing with the pain killer addiction recovery.

Man, that year was *stacked* as it was ... still my favorite of the 5 I went to (03 - 07) ...

edit - they are still listed on the official poster too ... http://coachella.com/gallery/photos/posters/2004
