...probably my second or third favorite band, i can listen to them anytime and they have a song for the mood.

I've only seen them twice, in 1997 and 2007, both in small clubs.

I'm 26 yrs old so I feel like they are the band i grew up with, besides PJ.

Almost all my friends quit listening to them after frogstomp, but whenever I put one of their albums on everyone likes it.

...just a bad ass band!

i love these guys. frog stomp was the first cd i ever bought. i grew up with them too, and their music has always moved forward. each album is something new and exciting. one of the only bands i know that has continued to grow and improve with every release.

I grew up with them too and have to say beside a few random songs they haven't done anything that tickled my fancy since frogstomp. I seen them at last years aria's and have to say Daniel Johns would have to be one of the most annoying ego's in Aussie music right now. The guy thinks he is a fucking God

i find daniel johns very amusing. loved his speech at the APRA awards(i think it was) when he thanked himself. classic!! :D sure he was drunk or stoned or whatever but it was still funny as hell. its something i wouldve done. plus hes got shitload of talent.

He was bottled by the Big Day Out crowd in Perth and to be honset I don't blame them. Silverchair flat out sucked and the funny thing was the bottles all started getting thrown when they started playing their new crap. Now I don't condone throwing stuff at artists at all but I could definately see where they were coming from. John's is so infatuated with himself onstage and the perfromance including his interaction with crowd whilst also embarassing was a carbon copy of the performance I saw on their most recent DVD.

Artistically these guys in their early days were a fraud who blatantly ripped off Soundgarden etc-this is well known. I could forgive that, except that their new 'original' stuff is absolutely unlistenable (i.e "if you kepp losing sleep") and Daniel John's lyrics are so bad it is embarassing. But due to the fact that I'm an Aussie I'm supposed to jump on the bandwagon  Whatever.

    This band stinks.

  • I originally detested them, as I felt like they were ripping off Kurt Cobain (looks wise) and just the grunge music in general

But started listening to the music and actually started to get into...

I still enjoy listening to them.

i can't believe that silverchair is still young. the fact that they started as teenagers.

for me the above fact makes their body of work all the more remarkable. i sometimes forget they were babies when frogstomp was released. so very much a product of its time it was too. :)

I like just about everything up until Diorama (sp?) and this latest album is just terrible :/

  • I don't care what anyone says this is band is incredible. One of my favorites of all time and alway will. Johns is one of the most talented humans in music from vocals, to guitar, to piano, to song writing.

    Diorama is a master piece.

One of the most under-rated albums of the new millenium that's for sure.

Definetly. When Straight Lines started to see big success here in the US Silverchairs new distributors/us label tried to re-release The Greatest View to radio. It stuck in some places but it wasn't pushed much at all which is too bad bc that song is great. Though the label cut out part of the song for the radio re-release which i don't think was a good idea.
