  • Yeah, Takk... is the easiest to get in to, then Agaetis Byrjun and/or the new one, then ( ). Always save the best for last. Oh, and if you come across their first CD, Von, don't even fucking bother with it.
If I could, think I would give in.
  • the new one is pretty good one to start with i think.

start with () then takk then agaetis byrjun then move on to the new one
..and you will come to find that we are all one mind, capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable

I just started out with the new one last week and actually found it quite accessible on first listen. Can't wait to hear more from them.

i still find takk their most accessible, even though med includes some of their 'poppiest' tunes. () is very mellow & soothing, agaetis is very lush. take your pick really. just avoid von & be sure to check out their film heima. arguably one of the best music films ever made.

  • I don't understand why everyone says avoid Von. No, it's not like the other albums, but it's not bad either. The shoegazer choir songs are odd and almost haunting, while the soundscape pieces are the key to the band's origin. I think it's great to see where they've gone from Von towards their present incarnation.
I discovered the secret of life, but forgot to write it down.
  • Because the majority of Von sounds like they just recorded the buzzing of a refrigerator... it's not even music, minus songs like Hun Joro and Myrkur, but other than that, it's a completely dull album.

Their reworked versions of the actual song Von and Hafsol on Hvarf are amazing though.
If I could, think I would give in.

Takk may be the most accesible but I also find it borderline cheesy

( ) is the easy answer here.

I'd suggest () then takk. There's a song on takk titled "Milano" that always makes me think of last year when my son was in the NICU. I feel asleep out in the office listening to sigur ros and I had a nice little dream and woke up to this song playing. Every time I hear it now all I can think of is my little family and how we're all doing okay now and I begin to tear up. The power of music is amazing huh?

  • Hey guys, thanks for all the suggestions! I got takk and ( ), and I'm really enjoying both of them. Walking through campus on a grey, rainy day listening to takk was one of the best musical experiences i've had in a while. also great music to lay in the dark and listen to, as Helen suggested. Much thanks, another successful foray into new music courtesy of the pit
