you know - like that crappy "band out of Boston" who spent 7 years making their first album (which I never liked, anyway) and could never quite recapture the magic...
My list (if you couldn't tell, I'm a bit trapped in the past):
Black Crowes
Blue Oyster Cult
Big Audio Dynamite
B-52's
Cars
Tracy Chapman
Concrete Blonde
Del Fuegos
Gin Blossoms
Go Go's
Marshall Tucker Band
Pretenders
Pure Prarie League
Scruffy the Cat
Steely Dan
Stephen Stills
George Thorogood and the Destroyers
and, some might say (not me), Pearl Jam
.

Yeah the media would put Pearl Jam on that list. But it isn't that much of a peak, I would say most of their career has been like a plateau maybe with little drops, but no valleys."There was a band playing in my head, and I felt like getting high"0

If by peaked you are saying what is their strongest album? I couldn't tell what you meant. But if that is the case Murmur from REM will always remain their best work in my mind.Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away0 -

I couldn't disagree more with this one. Southern Harmony will always be their first album to me. As to their best I would have to go with either Amorica or Southern Harmony, with Three Snakes sneaking in now and again. Shake Your Moneymaker really didn't showcase the talent and skill along with the jams that the Robinson Bros. have continued to produce.IMHO"The leads are weak!"

Yeah - their best, in your opinion. Not sales. Often, a crappy 2nd (or 3rd) album will just sell on what preceded it. Hell, I think I bought EVERY Black Crowes album, hoping for another "Shake Your Money Maker."
P.S. I'm NOT waiting for another "Ten." They're all great in their own way (even Riot Act:D)!If I had known then what I know now...

I'd say The Doors. The rest of their catalogue is by no means bad. I pretty much love it all except the Soft Parade.
But I still think the debut was their best work. And therefore their peak.I'll Ride The Wave Where It Takes Me0 -
Totally disagree with The Black Crowes. Southern Harmony and Amorica are the peak for them. So far.
I think a lot of people would say Van Halen. I would say Fair Warning though.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

Interesting... yeah, SHMC definitely had its moments but still...
I should probably give them ALL another listen. I think "Lions" got all of about ONE play. It was shit though, wasn't it?
P.S. I appreciate your respectful disagreement. Some people around here sure do get bent out of shape! If I had known then what I know now...

i DEFINITELY dont love the rest of their work. makeup the breakdown was 33 minutes of awesomeness, that nobody at the time was sounding like. the last two albums have been meh. saw them in 03 and have seen them every year since, and they just cant recapture that vibe from the first album.....sorry !!!Van '98, Sea I+II '00, Sea '01, Sea II '02, Van '03, Gorge, Van, Cal, Edm '05, Bos I+II, Phi I+II, DC, SF II+III, Port, Gorge I+II '06, DC, NY I+II '08, Sea I+II, Van, Ridge , LA III+IV' 09, Indy '10, Cal, Van '11, Lond, Van, Sea '13, Memphis '14, RRHOF '17, Sea I+II '18, Van I+II, Vegas I+II, Sea I+II '240 -

I LOVE them. Always will. I have such fond memories related to their music.

This the best example. On my two disc greatest hits it has 8 of the 11 tracks on it and the 3 they left out are great songs.
Its the only Doors CD I own thats not a compilation and I don't really feel the need for any of the other except maybe LA Women.10/31/2000 (****)

The Doors creep me out. Not a big fan of Manzarek's organ, either (you know what I mean). If I had known then what I know now...
