Bands You Like But Don't Care to See Live

Thinking about this after the Times article on a Vampire Weekend show. Are there any bands you like, or even love, that you have no interest to see live?

Vampire Weekend's there for me, partly because they have such a small catalogue. I also don't feel a lot of emotion in the songs, and you need that for a good live show.

Others: The Shins - maybe a little too hipster?
Death Cab - too low-key
Aimee Mann - no particular reason
The Decemberists - the long ones stretch my attention span as it is

  • I have interest in seeing almost every band I love live. Though there are some I might not feel compelled to see and am ok skipping. They would be:

Oasis- I saw them once, and it was ok. I'm going to see them this tour, but if it's as underwhelming as last time, I might let them pass next time.

Jay-z/Kanye/Nas/most rappers- Just find that a totally scripted show is not that impressive to me. Lupe was great at Lolla this year, but Kanye's Glow in the Dark tour was a disappointement.

Arctic Monkeys- They were fun, but nothing special.

Other than that, I love live music, so I'll see almost anyone.
she was underwhelmed, if that's a word
  • Vampire Weekend put on a really fun live set. Granted, it won't be an epic 3-hour affair, but they have a ton of energy and the songs translate well live. They are the perfect festival act.

I can't really think of a band I enjoy but wouldn't care to see...I'd give any band a chance, anyway!

I can never resist the urge to see a live show, it is a problem...no, an addiction.

Metallica. I like them, but not enough to see them. Plus I wouldn't want to be surrounded by metal heads.

    Stone Temple Pilots

Heard a lot of bad things about their concerts, if the tix were free I'd go, otherwise I'll pass.

I wouldn't worry about it. Won't see many of them at Metallica concerts. Not scary ones anyway.

The fact that you sort of like Metallica means you should go see them live. That's how they were meant to be seen.

I want to go so bad to one of the Forum shows but I'm tapped for cash by the holidays.

I guess money's a factor too. There are so many bands I'd love to see but can't afford that I don't wanna spend a wad on someone I think might be meh. Christ, I still haven't seen Wilco.
  • If I like the band, then I'll most likely see them live... maybe not go above and beyond to see them live, but if I can, I'll definitely try to, but if they're terrible live, I won't make a way of seeing them again.
If I could, think I would give in.

I saw Kings of Leon but i don't know if i would see them again. They were great but no variety really.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

Me too. I'll listen to the music, but live it's pretty meh :o

Also all of the old good artists that charge $150 for a greatest hits set.

RHCP, Wu-Tang, STP, Foo Fighters & Cornell. All bands I've seen and really don't need to see live again.

The Who.........Zac Starkey is a terrible drummer, its shocking that they still try to play new music, they are just too old now

  • For me it is more often than not the opposite effect--bands I have barely listened to or haven't really listened to much in the last decade or however long will come to town and if tickets are a decent price, I'll be there. Cost wise things can become prohibiting. I prefer The Who over Stone Temple Pilots...but for ten bucks, I can tell you which one I caught on their last tour. John Butler Trio is something I rarely pop in the cd player...but for fifteen bucks or whatever they put on one hell of a live show. Matthew Good was the same situation (though afterward I became quite a fan), a few others too.

If the price is right and it falls on the right day, I'll go see just about anyone I have even a passing interest in.

You should see The Decemberists. They are very, very energetic and entertaining live!

I can honestly say that I've seen pretty much ALL of my favorite bands (who are still living and together) live.

But if I had to pick someone that I wouldn't really care about seeing live I guess I'd say Bob Dylan. I know he's a legend and everything, but I haven't heard many good things about his live show recently...

    It really does.....

And I'd echo what someone else said, I'd like to see Metallica and NIN, but the crowds would freak me out.....the last thing I want to do is 'mosh'......

I went to Metallica a few weeks ago and it was more teenagers than anything. I wouldn't be too scared of the teenage crowd.

If its affordable, I'm always up for a live show. Now if I've seen them once and wasn't impressed, I have no desire to go again. I saw Tom Petty a few years ago and won't spend the money again.
