There has been a ton of arguments on this board regarding which is better..old PJ or new PJ. I'm guilty of being involved in some of these threads.....voicing my opinion. Now I understand that everyone has their own tastes in music and we really cannot judge art/music. But I just had to point out something I find really comical......

The best song from each album and the final three songs...

Black........TEN
RVM..........VS
Corduroy...VITALOGY

Guess the arguments can be put to rest!!!! :):)

I thought of this too. But hey, if songs like world wide suicide, insignificance, or I am mine were in the running still, I'd be picking them to win....

I am sickened that Given to Fly went before Rearviewmirror.
I'm also not happy that it didn't get voted out 5 rounds ago.

i'm not sayiing there are better options than these, but you've got to admit, these are damn good tunes. i would choose something different from each album, probably, but if you're looking for a concensus....is there really anything wrong with these choices?
for me...each is a top 10 PJ pic.

The problem as I see it, or lack there of, is that they really don't make many bad songs. So, I see that as a good thing. Can you really argue that Black, Corduroy or RVM don't deserve to be there? They are great songs. So are the others that got voted off earlier. It's a win/win situation! :)

I´d knew this final round would be extremely bizarre whitout songs like present tense, breath or porch in the competition
  • Keep in mind also that not everyone here is a huge hardcore PJ fan. Most people who aren't huge fans identify Pearl Jam with their first 3 albums.

you can also note how the early albums went pretty easily, lot of early landslide victories becos there are simlpy undisputed classics songs on there. the later albums... almost dead even every round the whole time, becos none of the tracks are standout classics, just a matter of which average song you like best.
  • People who are not huge fans like us (I suppose) relate to their first albuns because of their sucess back then.

It's so funny when you hear some people saying "oh, does Pearl Jam still tour or make albuns?" "are they the same guys?"

Anyway, I have to agree that BLACK is one of their best songs, as well as PORCH.

And bare in mind: Thanks GOD we do not have the same opinion, otherwise it will be too boring our conversations here.

  • Overall it was very sucessfull. A good representation.

My two favs didn't make it, In My Tree and In Hiding, I like where those songs take me.

But I must say, that even after all these years, BLACK still gives me chills.

  • So, essentially you people are saying Black or RVM are the best two song in the PJ canon? You people are fucking idiots. You want to bag on great songs like You Are, but, you want to love up a overplayed song like Black. I hope RVM beats the crapola out of Black.

It doesn't make any difference how many time BLACK was played, there is no way you can beat that moment when crowd sing turutu tu turutu live.
If you ever been on real concert you would now that...if not get a shrink!!

Black should beats the crapola out of you.

And calling people "fucking idiots" for having their own opinion is pretty cool. I've been listening to Black from day one and am not sick of it and suspect I never will be sick of it. It is an amazing song. That's my opinion, if yours differs so be it. But I'm not going to call you a fucking idiot because of it.

whoever gets sick of black..... is sick
  • Black is a great song and I used to love it. I think for me though, it's just too much in the past. The meaning it held for me was in the past and it doesn't move me any longer. It's nice to hear it live but I wouldn't be too bothered not to catch it again. Same goes for songs like Footsteps. They both helped me through some rough-teen times but I've grown up and left them behind, I suppose.
