Mainstream Rock is turning into Rap.

Everytime I hear a new song from Nickelback, Saliva, Chevelle, all of those terrible bands I get so fucking annoyed. ALL of these bands sound COMPLETELY identical. It's like their producers make them have this same sound as everyone else. The guitar riffs, guitar solos, the guitar tone, drum sound, drumming, bass, song structure, vocals, lyrics all sounds exactly the same. There is NOTHING unique with any of these current bands. I am seriously convinced that their record companies do not let them have their own style. The quality is just getting worse and worse. Pretty soon rock bands won't even be playing their instruments on stage.
(PS: I am only talking about these new "alternative" bands)

I think he's refering to how commercial rap music faces much of the same problem.
i hear that. pretty soon bands will be on stage playing guitar hero and rock band and passing it off as talent
And you're just discovering this now? This has been happening to mainstream rock music ever since Cobain blew his head off in '94. It's nothing new. I probably couldn't even tell you what some of these bands sound like, because I haven't listened to mainstream radio in probably 7 or 8 years. There are hundreds of great bands out there with original sounds, playing their own instruments and writing their own songs without record company interference. And they all rock harder than anything you'll hear on the radio. It's out there. Ya just gotta do a little digging.

I agree with what your saying...totally agree.
But on that same token...
Don't you find it a little bit disheartning that "Mainstream" still remains a bad word?
Don't you find it fustrating that an overwhelming majority of mainstream music is inherently made up of music that is neither artisically credible or challenging?
Is is fair to assume that the majority of people on this earth are un-cultured consumptive zombies who like their art easily digestable and void of engaging content or challenge?
What does this say about our culture and where it is heading?
Obviously...I've long since given up on mainstream media to provide anything remotely engaging or Intellectually and artistically satisfying.
But that doesn't mean that I'm going to sit back and be happy about it.
I personally think on a larger scale that this is evidence how the human race as a whole has completly lost the plot.
I feel it is evidence that our society has grown stagnent and stunted in regards to our development and furthering of intellegence and progression as a culture.
And it's on a much deeper level than simply being pissed off because my favorite bands aren't getting the recognition I feel they rightfully deserve.
It's a real bummer.
I think people in general are still growing just fine. The things we all discuss nowadays are on a much higher level intellectually than what our parents would talk about. We are still progressing...popular music doesn't really play a role in it. It's not like we made any giant leaps when popular music and artistically-sound music were somewhat in-line with each other.
And to flip it, I've met plenty of people who like artistically-sound music who I'd describe as completely uncultured and zombie-like.
You just hit the nail on the head, my friend. My sentiments exactly! It's the same reason why crap movies like High School Musical 3 and Beverly Hills Chihuahua were #1 at the box office when they were released. We're constantly told by the mainstream media what to eat, what to like, what's cool, what's not cool, etc... It's our choice whether or not to listen to that shit and follow it like sheep. Sadly the majority of people, especially North Americans, are incredibly lazy and prefer to have their culture spoon-fed to them by TV and the media.

That is exactly how I feel. People's general taste in music is just getting worse and worse. Pretty soon I think this world is going to be filled with morons with the attention span of a fish with all of this terrible music and tv. Have you ever seen Idiocracy?
And I have always knew that mainstream sucks, it has just been bothering me more lately. I have dug up and looked around for new music, of course there is still plenty of great music around. Its just a SHAME that those bands arent the ones becoming more famous.

That movie is brilliant. And sadly it's a pretty good indication of where we're headed as a culture.

with a few temporary exceptions, its always been that way. its not anything new.
Nothing has to be too complicated for them - and that includes film or music.
Mainstream music is written to a set format of 3 and a half minutes long with 2 verses, 2 choruses, and an instrumental bridge.
'Music for the masses is for asses' as a well known philosopher once said.
Shhhhhh don't tell the advertisers. That's a secret between you, me, the lampost and the Pearl Jam board.
1st off High School Musical is for kids and i wen to see it because my neice wanted to see it and i am not going to give her crap for liking what she wants. sorry for being a sheep:)
every generation always says the same shit. i have freinds in their 50's who laugh about music from the 90's and call it shit.
in reality it is our generation of downloading that has ruined mainstream music. companies are not going to waste their money on stuff that we will steal.

finally, FUCK TICKETMASTER
I like it
It's true though, there's so much good music out there.....
Difference is that they were part of a new sound, an innovation in music. Then unfortunatley they spawned a bunch of crappy rip-off bands, much on which we still hear today.
But then again, all music sounds the same if you only hear it once or if you don't really listen to the genre. I bet if you took a nickelback album and listened to it enough like any other album you'd be able to tell the songs apart. Don't deny me because you don't like nickelback, because it's true.
there's a lot of good music out there... just not on the radio. i'd rather listen to the sound of a diesel truck engine than mainstream radio.
True, it's for kids. But there's crappy kids fare and there's good kids fare. The two movies I mentioned are brainless piles of crap that talk down to children and insult their intelligence. Kids are smart and they deserve better. A movie like "Wall-E" on the other hand, now there's an intelligent family movie. I think Kids need more stuff like that, and less garbage like Hannah Montana. Just my opinion of course. I didn't mean any offense.

(btw, i haven't heard a decent guitar solo in a LONG time)
