Mine has to be

Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby, I remember being all over this song when it came out. I run into Robert Matthew Van Winkle all the time down in South Florida Palm Beach County. Even bowled next to him and his daughter and a decent bowler who needs to stay out of trouble.

Gary Neuman.......Cars

Bobby McFerrin....Don't worry be Happy

Haddaway...........What Is Love?

Survivor..............Eye Of The Tiger

Carl Douglas.........Kung Fu Fighting

You'll have any?

    Very good choices...

I know they were around for a while and reformed recently but to me they're one hit wonders when it comes to mainstream popularity -
Love and Rockets - So Alive

    also have to throw in
    James - Laid
Bran Van 3000 - Drinking in LA
    Falco - Rock Me Amadeus
    Cornershop - Brimful of Asha

As annoying as it was, I can't say I didn't sing along every single time (of the millions of times it got played)
    Chumbawamba - Tub Thumping

there's so many...I'll have to edit this post I'm sure :)

She married Paul Simon, the singer, I believe......

Yeah, for some reason that song got old quick. I always loved these two though.

This one is a Dylan cover and not an official video but it was off of the "Born on the Fourth of July" soundtrack. Great movie, great soundtrack.

    James???

Do you consider a 20+ year career ('81 to '01, they reformed last year), 10 albums and a shitload of hit singles to qualify them as one hit wonders?

'Sit Down' was massive years before 'Laid' came out and they even had an 18-track "Best Of" album which anyone with an interest in the 90's UK indie scene should check out.

They were third on the bill at Neil Young's all day gig in Finsbury Park in 93, followed by the special guests that day... Pearl Jam!

    are you from the uk?

Yeah I'm from the UK, was it really that obvious?! :-)

I know this is a US-based post but most of the other bands that are listed on this post were one hit wonders in the UK too. James really stand out from the rest because they actually had a long and successful career over here.

If you guys heard some of the shit that become "hits" over here these days you would laugh your asses off in pity for us!

i dont doubt it. im just always fascinated at these anomalies. like you said, most of these are universal one-hits. and then there are plenty of bands that are universally beloved (i think pearl jam would be one). but then there are those odd examples of bands that are HUGE over there and unheard of here. most of britpop falls into that category. i guess that's why it's called britpop?

settle down tiger. they had one hit here. I'm sure there are many bands/artists that had many hits here and were one hit wonders on your side. the OP never stated a one hit wonder in a particular country.

I'm from the US ... I'll disagree with this statement about James ... as stated a page ago, "Say Something" was pretty big here as well ... not as big as Laid, but played on the radio often.
