My question why have Jimmy Page play to welcome the London Olympics if some felt the had too much of a sexual innuendo?

Here's the story...Sexual Innuendo Dropped From Led Zeppelin Song at Olympic Closing Ceremony

Far more "inappropriate" than the lyrics or choice of song, was that ridiculous dress and I'm sorry but I didn't really "get" the whole thing anyway. It was interesting as a performance piece but I didn't really understand it and I'm not really sure what exactly, they were trying to be representative of. To me the whole sequence was weird.

It was cool for Jimmy to represent England and to use Whole Lotta Love to launch the English Olympic thing, but it was pretty horrible to be honest. Leona Lewis has a fine voice, but thats not how Whole Lotta Love should be sung or portrayed!

I wholeheartedly agree, I was caught off gaurd by the whole thing. If they really wanted Led Zep playing atleast have Plant singing.

I hope this is not a prelude to London cause I'm going to be there with my daughter. I already have a place to stay.

NBC must be holding on tight to the rights to every footage they shot.

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Yeah, me too, completely caught off guard, not in a good way. :D

I mean don't get me wrong, I don't think the piece was without merit, but it seemed such a hotpotch of nothing and didn't really have ANYTHING to do with the Olympics as far as I can see. When I think of all the things they could have done, I just don't really get what they did do. We made that same comment while we were watching, "Hope this is not a prelude"

I spent the whole song HOPING upon HOPE that Robert would turn up. Nothing against the girl that sang, clearly she can, but I'm not understanding the relevance is all, particularly if you're going to celebrate England/GB's awesome achievements in music, why "cleanse"? If she didn't want to sing the lyrics as they were intended, then don't sing the song.

Having said all that, I'm more than certain you'll have a great time.
They'll have a whole arena to fill for the opening and closing ceremony. I'm more than sure they'll put on a good show. :)

they're tearing east london to shit for this olympics, can't help but hope that it falls flat on its ass. not in a mean-spirited sense mind, just ruminating.

The problem is, they're tearing up the wrong bits. They should be tearing up the Lower Clapton Road and shitholes like that.

Besides I'll find it very hard for any other country i the future to top what the Chinese did in this Olympics. Those venues were awesome, I mean awesome.

Yeah, well I hardly watched it to be honest. I saw highlights here and there but frankly I don't think the Chinese should have been given the Olympics to start with so no matter what they managed, for me, they most certainly can and will be topped. :)

Maybe so but is any country out there willing and ready to spend nearly 40 Billion the Chinese spent on accommodations and venues etc? Now that's what I was referring to as far as topping them.

Yeah, I understand what you meant and frankly I find the fact that they spent that kind of money on a sporting event vulgar and offensive given the poverty and human rights abuses in their country.

Any other country that did the same I would find equally vulgar and offensive. It's why I didn't watch.

To me the Olympics are not about how much money you spend. They're about participating in the global community and fostering good will amongst nations. I'm just not a big believer that throwing money at it is the way to go about that.

So yeah, by your definition probably nobody will top them, but I don't really see it as much of an honour is all. :)

Ha, and last night on Talksport Galloway mentioned shooting when bemoaning the fact that 60% of Britain's medallists were educated privately :D

Bringing this thread back to topic with a strange circularity, James Whale was calling the Page/Lewis combo a pile of shite this evening, on Play UK.

"Lewis didn't want to sing the line, "I'm gonna give you every inch of my love" in the second verse, because she said she didn't think that particular "sexual innuendo" made sense from a female singer. So "inch" was changed to "bit.""

if she felt it didnt make sense, she should have changed it to "im gonna swallow every inch of your love" ;)
    and like that... he's gone.

I understand what you're saying and the main reason I watched was to see the country where I was born Jamaica.

I wanted to see how well we would do against the US and everybody else. I wanted to see what Jamaica does best run fast and they didn't do too badly. :)

that picture is sexual innuendo. it looks like jimmy is putting that guitar in her back door. she's probably too old for him though.

it was a shame Page choose to put Zeppelin on the world stage at the olympics with that girl (I didn't even know who she was). Plant is the only person who should sing this one and Page needs to let Led Zeppelin go.
