al schnier, guitarist/vocalist for moe. will be doing some shows starting the end of october and stretching through november with his side project, al & the transamericans. the band has a rock/country/bluegrass sound to it. more than likely, they'll cover a couple moe. tunes. i've seen them a couple times and from what i've seen, they're not exactly the same thing moe. is, as far as the jamming goes. still a decent band to see, though. here's a link where you can listen to their music, if you feel inclined. (waiting for the punchline is my favorite track).

and here's the list of dates. if anyone wants to make the trek, i'll be at the 11/15 show in syracuse.

  • so i went to the show saturday night in syracuse. really great time, got right to the front of the stage without much crowding at all the whole night. great set, with a couple moe. tunes thrown in for good measure. non-musical highlight of the night was an announcement by al between songs: they decided to not set up the merch table until after they were done playing. he then said they were trying their own version of an economic bailout. go to the table, pick any item(s), name your price. if someone wanted to pay $10 for an item, they could. if they wanted to pay $100, they could. if they wanted to pay $1, they could. i wasn't planning on buying anything, but seeing as i had $2 in cash in my pocket, i figured i'd try it out. i got a shirt and a sticker for $2. no funny looks from the people behind the table (al was one of them), just a "thanks so much for the support". pretty cool move, i say.

yeah, that was it as far as moe. songs. they also played one of gordon stones songs, one of kirk juhas songs, a bob dylan cover (instrumental.....can't remember the name of it). it was a great time, i just wish someone had gone with me. i hate going to shows stag.
