Virgin Festival

Quick Review

1. BRMC...Loved the stuff from "Howl"
2. Andrew Bird...it takes balls to play rock with a violin.
3. She and Him...Loved them. Zooey's voice was the best of the day and M. Ward is fantastic on guitar.
4. Lil Wayne...waited forty minutes and then he comes out. He sucked and I dont see why he is famous
5. Iggy Pop and the Stooges...A fucking legend and he did not disappoint. I got to meet Mike Watt.
6. Stone Temple Pilots...Seriously...Scott Weiland was spot on today. He was articulate, gracious and nailed every song. They got the best response of the day as everyone sang like it was 1995. The setlist was heavy on "Core" and "Purple".
7. NIN...Amazing light show and setlist. Anyone who skips them on this tour is foolish. Trent and the rest of the band showed why they headlined.

Pissed that i missed the Black Keys...did anyone see them?

I saw The Black Keys this past Thursday in NY. I was expecting more- they sounded good but the set was too short and I've seen much better guitar solos before. Seeing them once was enough for me. I'll stick to listening to their albums.

How was Mike Watt? Did they mention anything in their set about their equipment being stolen?
  • He has such a huge presence in every song. He is also a really cool guy. I was watching Bob Dylan play "Like a Rolling Stone" and I look over and see him. Once Bob finished I went over and told him that I have seen Iggy Pop a couple of times but never with the stooges. I told him how much I enjoyed their set. He thanked me for the kind words and headed back to his trailer.

    Such a cool guy.

I would have loved to see many of those bands (from both days)

I too could not justify the ticket price for two of us!

Glad you had fun, I have never seen STP before (only VR -- we went last yr to see them)

  • I had an awesome fucking time this year. NIN was great, Foo Fighters were awesome, Dave Grohl is a nut on stage running around and shit it was great. I was also pleasantly surprised by The Offspring, they were really good IMO. Kanye puts on a hell of a show as well.
  • Too busy with NIN...

I had a hell of a an awesome time...I will go back and I think the lineup was better than the APW festival and this one recieved no hype at all.

For the bands that were there the price was very fair.

Yea i watched the entire NIN set as well. Kanye played for like an extra 30 min. well I assume he started late since lil wayne came out 40 min. late, prick.

He definitely was late and is a prick. I went over to VH1.com to read their coverage and Kanye and Lil Wayne got about 10 paragraphs, while the rest of the artists recieved only a single paragraph.

With the immense pool of talent there, why wasn't more coverage given to it? I mean come on...look at these juicy stories.

    1. Scott Weiland singing like it was 1995
    2. STP enjoying each others presence.
    3. Zooey Daschnel dispels the myth that actors can't be great musicians.
    4. Iggy Pop humps his monitor.
    5. Is there a more talented bassist than Mike Watt???
    6. Nine Inch Nails light show blew my mind.

Even day one had its fair share of great stories...

    7. Chuck Berry is fucking 82 and still rocking out.
    8. Wilco could be the best band in the world.

Please do not think this is an anti-rap tirade...There are a number of rappers that I respect and listen to including Jay Z, Outcast and Common. I just don't think that Lil Wayne deserved the coverage since he came on so late and needed a guest appearance by Kanye West.

Thats my story and Im sticking to it.

    It's true though.
  • Anyone have any setlists from these two days....all I could dig up was Wilco's....which was pretty rocking.

Also, somehow everyone managed to overlook the great set Cat Power played...maybe because it was the noon slot on Saturday, but either way she was on point...very jazzy and bluesy.

I thought it was real cool to see a bunch of musicians just strolling around checking out the scene. The guys from BRMC walked right in front of me and my buddy to see Iggy play, I just didn't realize it until they were already gone by.

My legs and back still hurt though from so much standing ha.....but it was worth it.
What?!? No, We can't stop here, this is bat country.
