Ok, so when my ex left he took 95% of the cd collection with him :(

I have to replace all the obvious, the PJ, the AIC, Soundgarden etc but I'm also looking to move on and I want some new stuff that's my own.

Anyone got any recommendations for me?
I'll listen to anything once so don't be shy :)

I'm currently listening to Sigur Ros, The Audreys and Feist and I love it.

Any ideas?

Have you given Wilco a try?
Perhaps starting with their live album Kicking Television to get a flavor of their many songs?

Just based on these, I'd recommend:

    Massive Attack
    Bjork
    Portishead

Thanks, already have all these :)

I'm looking for anything different really. Something I won't neccessarily have heard of before.

Maybe you should try this little band from seattle named Pearl...

Just kidding Minus the Bear another great seattle band with a bit of a different sound but very talented indeed.

Check out the album Highly Refined Pirates. They create a warm soundscape with their instruments and the guitar playing is excellent and has a unique flavor to it. THe vocals and lyrics are perhaps are not the best ever but they are not a let down either. Great song tittles too. They just throw out some crazy names. Absinthe Party if i remember correctly is a very good song another one is Thanks for the Killer Game of Crisco Twister.

The Reminder by Feist is pretty damn sweet. Reminds me a lot of Fiona Apple/Amy Whinehouse combo.

Anybody know about her other records, are they good?
