Soundgarden Reunion?

So i heard on the radio last night that Soundgarden has been hanging out together lately to put together some sort of DVD, and they are considering doing something more together (They didn't specify what. whether it would be a few new songs, album, tour, etc...)
2008 may be a summer full of great music.
STP is potentially getting back together
AIC is doing a new album
Candlebox went into the studio in December with all original members to do a new album.
and now Soundgarden is potentially considering another run.
it would be great to see a "Grunge" resurgence after almost a decade of it being silent.

I thought the last two years was a pretty big grunge resurrgence. Pearl Jam world tour, Dinosuar Jr Tour, SP reformed, Chris Cornell out on the road doing Soundgarden and TOTD stuff. I've seen Mudhoney, Lemonheads, The Melvins, Alice in Chains. To be honest grunge hasn't really gone away. People just don;t talk about it as much.
A while ago(like a year or more) MTV or somehting was on ina bar and it had the top 5 rock hits of the moment, and I think it was RHCP, Foo Fighters, Audioslave, QOTSA and Pearl Jam. All of whom are or can be traced to the grunge big 3 or 4 or whatever it is. The stuff that went on in a very short time in Seattle 15-20 years ago still controls the only decent rock music that's coming out at the moment. Not to mention the finger on the pulse that Sub Pop still has on the new stuff(Band of Horses, CSS, Kinski, Iron and Wine, The shins)
Last spring I joked with a mate that after seeing SP, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, the lemonheads, the melvins, Dinosaur Jr, Built to spill, Mark Lanegan, Chris Cornell and QOTSA in a 6 month period the only thing that could still interest me would be a Led Zep reunion....0 -
I still can't call it Alice In Chains without Layne :(
would love to see a proper Soundgarden reunion with all four members....
guess that'd cause a few problems lol'The more I studied religions the more I am convinced that man never worshipped anything but himself.' - Sir Richard Francis Burton0 -
I know what you mean - the truth is they weren't that great - but it was more the audiences fault. They were supporting G n' R as well, which was hardly perfect. I'd prefer if they focused on some new material.
As for a Soundgarden reunion, I don't see it happening. I would love it, but I think all the members are too far removed from what Soundgarden was to think it would be a good idea.0 -
Of all the bands, I think soundgarden would be the least likely to reform. Matt and Chris both have other gigs, and I don't think anybody's heard from Kim in at least a decade or so."If all those sweet, young things were laid end to end, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised."

Says that the rumors in the neighborhood where they hold Bonnaroo is that Soudgarden reunion will play Bonnaroo....0
-
C'Mon there was rumours last year that led zep were going to reform and that never happened!0
-
Well, i'm hoping there isn't a Soundgarden reunion because i'm scared that Matt might enjoy it too much and leave PJ :("This town deserves a better class of criminal... and I'm gonna give it to them."0

dont tease me. that reunion would be phenomenal!
PJ can bring back Jack and do an acoutsic theater tour!-

Now the real debate starts, while I thought that Matt is one of the best drummers in the world long before he joined Pearl Jam, and I only want what's best for my favourite band. His talents are more essential to Soundgarden than they are to Pearl Jam. While I can imagine Pearl jam without Matt(I'm sure I could even find an Aide-mémoire in my iTunes), there is no Soundgarden without Matt.
Would you really keep Matt in PJ at the expense of a Soundgarden tour and Album?0 -

i don't see why he couldn't just pull double duty
Pearl Jam/Soundgarden 08!
We get 90 minutes of each, and it culminates with a mini Temple of the Dog set at the end. How rad that would be.
also, to add to what i was talking about earlier, there are rumblings of a possible Jane's Addiction reunion as well (don't hold your breaths though)You can't spell "dumb" without DMB0 -
Where exactly are these rumblings taking place? I follow 6767 fairly closely and I think there's a fair bit of water to cross before navarro is sharing a stage with farrell, nevermind the fact that Navarro has so much on(His porn carreer), that he'd have to want to do it and I don't know if he would or not.
That said the Panic Channel pretty much flopped as did Satellite Party(My opinions, not really based on hard facts), and they must be itching to play some music that works again. Maybe if Eric Avery was up for it again then that would be the carrot to do it again...
Soundgarden - I get the impression if Kim Thaiyl was into nostalgia trips we'd have heard a lot more about him in recent years. Same goes for ben Shephard pretty much - IMO he's more interested in doing the odd interesting thing, dipping in here and there. Chris is happy enough doing solo work, although he's carrying a collection of good session musicians around with him rather than being quarter of a band. Whether he feels that or not is kind of the deciding factor.
Maybe the solution is "Sounds like Jane's got a Garden Addiction"
Chris - vocals
Kim - Guitar
Dave N - Guitar
Perkins - Drums
Whoever fancies it - Bass
It's really no more ridiculous than Chris becoming the new singer for RATM0 -

Dave said it's something he would do under the right circumstances. A few weeks, no new label, no new music....just doing it for the love of the music itself. perkins said he wouldn't be opposed either. Perry was just interviewed for a fansite and his answer about it is coming soon. They are putting together a boxset for 2008, so it's not out of the question it could go down. That said the Panic Channel pretty much flopped as did Satellite Party(My opinions, not really based on hard facts),
They both only sold around 8000 copies of their albums in their first week, and promptly disappeared into nothingness after that. So it's not an opinion, it's true.and they must be itching to play some music that works again. Maybe if Eric Avery was up for it again then that would be the carrot to do it again...
Eric won't. But stranger things have happened.Chris is happy enough doing solo work, although he's carrying a collection of good session musicians around with him rather than being quarter of a band.
I thought the same thing about his band till i checked out who it is. He's currently got Yogi from Buckcherry and Jason Sutter from American Hi Fi. They are definitely pros.Maybe the solution is "Sounds like Jane's got a Garden Addiction"

Kim - Guitar

i wouldn't. if soundgarden ever did get back together, i would hope matt would be there with them. i love matt, he's one of my favorite living drummers, (has been since i first heard soundgarden) but i'd much rather see him back with SG than with pearl jam."Have you ever.........pooped a balloon?"
