From pollstar.com and they sent out an email today announcing info about tickets:

The lineup for next year's Bonnaroo won't be announced for a while, but the tickets are ready to go - and soon.
The eighth annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival has its presale in just two days, Dec. 4. It ends New Year's Eve.
Tickets will be specially priced with variant levels - but only for the early purchase. VIP tickets will be available during the presale.
For the first time, general admission tickets will be available during the presale and there's an installment plan where the purchaser ponies up five payments of $50 - plus applicable fees, of course.
Bonnaroo will take place June 11-14 at its usual spot, the 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tenn., 60 miles southeast of Nashville.
Along with its usual lineup of musical acts, Bonnaroo has become a festival stop for comedians.
Chris Rock, Lewis Black, Flight Of The Conchords, David Cross, Zach Galifianakis and Patton Oswalt are just some of the top comics to stop by.
In fact, Lewis Black helped Bonnaroo with a video promoting the presale, which can be seen at the official Bonnaroo.com site.

  • I've never been to Bonnaroo. I think I should go this year, just because I don't think I'll ever have the chance again, once I start work this fall.

I'd love to get tix but I need to get an internship this summer and I don't think they'd appreciate me taking off in my first 2 weeks of work. Plus I feel weird putting money down when I don't know who the acts will be.

  • This is pretty damn early. I certainly won't buy tickets before knowing who's gonna be there.

I just saw on the Seattle station that Bumbershoot is doing an early sale as well. :)

Unless Led Zeppelin plays I don't see the point of buying early. As a business they just want money up front. You might as well save your money until the line-up is announced.

On the bright side it's nice to hear talk of festivals for 2009!

People that go to Roo every year regardless of the lineup will be the ones taking advantage of this sale. They have 4 different pricing tiers set up so the earlier someone buys a ticket the cheaper it could be.

I have been to Bonnaroo the past 4 years, but may not go next year. Depends on the lineup, so I won't be getting these early tickets. If I am not impressed with the lineup I may check out another fest instead.
  • My friends went this past summer and said the porta potty situation was bad enuogh that they would never attend another Bonnoroo. They said you'd stand in lines 30+ long and then when you got inside, you discovered a mound of poop everywhere. And you didn't know which line to get in to avoid the poo, so you just took your chances.
  • Rumor is that Pearl Jam is headlining Bonnaroo 2009, along with every other 2009 festival on the planet, and I also heard Ed will play a super-secret solo set during the second day over by the grassy knoll.

    you heard it here first.

main reason to stay away from big festivals. Small one's (ex. moe.down) are usually clean, and you can usually find actual plumbing if you know where to go/camp

plus you don't have to deal with large crowds, and can usually hear the music from your tent if you don't want to go into the concert area

actually, Coachella went a long way to resolve any bathroom issues and did a great job in 2007, which was packed with the Rage reunion ...

Hoping PJ goes back to Indio.

i have no desire to camp in tennessee in the summer time. you need clean bathrooms in that kind of heat/humidity.

voodoo festival was fantastic. you stay in a hotel. cheap trolley ride to festival. perfect weather. and bourbon street at night when the festival is over.
  • Man, the ticket prices seem to go up a lot each year... this is the early tier and we're looking at already $250? What the hell?
If I could, think I would give in.

Oh right - forgot about the price tiers and how fast the first one goes. I know ppl go no matter what, but was just saying to pay 6 months in advance is silly. Anyways I hope the line-up is great, but depending on the lineup I may be heading to Rothbury this year instead. That 15 hour drive to Bonnaroo is starting to get to me : )

Well, get this, the VIP tix went up $150 this year, AND they took away the free food. So you pay more for less! I'm pretty disappointed as the free food was a big part of why I chose to do VIP last year. I'm on the fence now.
  • Wow, I didn't know you got free food with the VIP... how did that work? Did you just go to the stands that were in the park and show a card to get free food? If so, that'd be awesome! The food in the park is downright amazing. So yeah, that would make a big difference... I just don't get it... either they have some really major acts playing and that's why the tix are so high, and/or they just want more money.
If I could, think I would give in.

Sadly it wasn't that all-encompassing. They had large (air-conditioned!)catering tents in the VIP area where food was served for most of the day. There were a couple hours during the day where the tents were closed, and they shut down for the night around 8 or 9 or something. The food was typical catering buffet, but it was a nice amenity I am disappointed they are taking away.

I shouldn't say they're taking it away, because they will apparently have food packages available ON top of the VIP cost.

I was very disappointed with the service in the VIP catering tents. They obviously hadn't planned it very well for some meals. I think they were basically trying to get out of providing the free food. I think this meal plan they are going to offer for VIP is just another way for them to get more $$ out of those attending the festival.

From what I had heard about VIP (last year was the only year I got VIP tickets) they reduced the size of the spaces each person got for their camping space by a good bit. I swear I had more room previous years in GA than I did in VIP last year.

Bonnaroo raises their ticket prices every year (GA & VIP). There's no reason yet to believe they have anything extra spectacular lined up for next year just based on the ticket prices.

wow... that's shit! I did VIP this year, and it was great, but knowing that, I wouldn't want to go next year, if I had been considering it. and maybe it's because i'm older and possibly more of a snob, but i would never go if not for VIP. things looked pretty nasty out there in the hinterlands. next year, i'm hoping to go to a more local fest like mountain jam or gathering of the vibes.
