I finally found another band that can actually challenge pearl jam both musically and lyrically. It all started when a buddy of mine gave me a ticket to see linkin park. Never been much of a fan, but decided to go. There opening act happens to be the band Coheed and Cambria. They open there set and for the next hour I am blown away. Never have I felt that much energy since pearl jam. After sitting through linkin park, I go home and start buying every cd coheed has made. I listen to a variety of music, but never have I seen a band be able to pull off all types of songs like them. Now, there are a lot of differences between pearl jam and coheed; however, musically I am amazed at some of the stuff they can play, especially the lead singer Claudio Sanchez. As for their stage set, there isn't a lot of banter in between songs. In fact, Claudio is actually kind of shy. Instead, they just rip into as many songs as they can get in. Anyway, I get another chance to see Coheed and Cambria at a festival with 7 other bands. The headliner is STP. As I wait all day, Coheed is the last of the 3 bands to play. Again, they absolutely tear the place up. Getting 7000 people into your band who doesn't really know you gives you an idea of how good it must have been. If that isn't enough, after the show all the members come out and take pics, sign autographs, chat, etc... for 2 hours. As usual STP is late for their set, and they even mention how they could never do that to their fans. Truly nice guys, and very genuine.

If you are looking for something new, something different, something amazing, please check out this band. Give them a chance. I don't think you will regret it, in fact, I think you may be just like me. I am not the type of person that can be easily influenced. This band makes you realize what real music it. Similar to pearl jam in that they are all about the music and their fans.

  • Their band is based on comic books that the lead singer wrote himself. There is nothing more lame than that.

I have to admit that they had some good songs on their first two CDs but everything after that Claudio pronounces his words very weird and obnoxiously. He like drags them out in a weird way. I hate them, but I hate their fans more.
  • You are entitle to your opinion, but I feel strongly that you are wrong. Listen to delirium trigger from their first album. Now that is what music is all about.
  • I dont mind singing along if one of thier early songs comes on the radio - but NOTHING will ever be as good as PJ

  • i think they are pretty close at this point.

  • I can't stand the dude's voice and that stops me from liking this band. It's weird cause I love Mars Volta and Rush, but this dude's voice is like so high. It sounds like a cartoon.

Agreed. He has one of those voices that makes it impossible for me to listen. Incredibly irritating.

  • Love this band. Who the fuck cares if you're band is based on the Comic books... I think it's awesome that instead of staying to mainstream shit of just stupid single after single, this band has a uniform concept... not just one album, the whole band is a concept. Props to him actually taking the time to do all that. That's creativity... not just sticking to the norm.. a la Pearl Jam.
If I could, think I would give in.
  • can't stand his voice. sounds like a dolphin.

Don't like the band at all...but had to reply cause I love your username...one of my fav bands of all time....fav album of all time is "soup"
    Master of Zen
  • Haha, thanks. I'm not as "into" the band as it should be said because of my user name... I really like the name, and do like the band... but am not obsessed about 'em. I must say though, "Soup" is one fucking fantastic album. Gave it a listen last night, hadn't done that in a while, shit... still kicks so much ass. Walk, St. Andrew's Fall, of course Mouthful of Cavities.. damn.
If I could, think I would give in.

I saw these guys. I didn't find the music terribly interesting, but I was captivated by the spastic flailings of their percussionist.
It is time to admit that we used to rock like hurricanes. It is time to run for the hills and go round and round. It is time for us to shout at the devil. We've got the right to choose it, there ain't no way we'll lose it, and we're not gonna take it anymore.

  • Heres the deal. Those who complain about his voice, you have to listen to more than welcome home to have a true understanding of his voice. Download one song that I recommend, play it in full, and then give me your reaction. If you don't like it then, then I understand. Try this song, and it is epic, it is about 7 minutes long.

In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth, or if you want something a little shorter that rocks hard, try

    No world for Tomorrow

I have actually listened to quite a bit of their stuff. There are songs where his voice bothers me less than others, but the irritation is always there. Sorry. Don't take it personally. For me, that band that has reached near-Pearl Jam status is Arcade Fire. Many people on this board don't care for them. Different people connect with different music.

  • Musically I think they are. Has anyone listened to those 2 songs I mentioned???
  • Aye aye on the Arcade Fire. I'm less keen on Neon Bible than Funeral but some of my fav's are on NB. 'Keep the Car Running', '(Antichrist Television Blues)', and 'Well and the Lighthouse' are all classic.

Coheed and Cambria, ehhh, not so much.

we get it dude, give it a rest. if you want to talk just about coheed, i'm sure they've got a board somewhere. if you're just looking to market your band, talk to your label. if you want to keep discussing the band, how about not making a new thread saying the exact same thing every time you do it?
    and like that... he's gone.
  • So what you're saying is that...Coheed suck?
