Melissa Auf der Maur NOT In the New Pumpkins

After James here's the news
"With the questions still surrounding the reformed Smashing Pumpkins' lineup ahead of the band's summer tour, former bassist and solo artist Melissa Auf der Maur confirmed to The Globe and Mail she isn't part of the reunion, "other than being a fan and rooting for them."

So sad...

I know Eric Avery from Janes Addiction is playing.. guess this confirms he's the bass player.

I really want James back :(. There are rumors that James is actually involved and he made that statement to throw off fans trying to guess the lineup.. but I don't put much stock in it. At least he didn't say "No" as far as we know. He just said he was busy doing a solo project.

There was a rumor that the rest of the lineup would be ex-Halo Freindlies bassist Ginger Reyes and Jeff Schroeder of the Lassie Foundation on guitar. I haven't heard anymore about this though, so I'm guessing it was false.

Well the Avery thing is confirmed - he released a statement some time ago. Though it's not totally confirmed.. his exact words were something like "I'm working with the Pumpkins". Kind of vague..

Eric Avery confirmed on his blog that he is not playing with the Pumpkins. All he did was jam with Corgan and Chamberlin for a little while to help hash out some song ideas, but he did not record anything with them.

It's too bad because Avery rocks. He's written a lot of my all time favorite bass lines.

I know it's a million to one, but I'm hoping those press releases were just the Pumpkins fucking with us so the reaction when James and Mellissa walk out on stage for the first time will be earth shaking.

Yeah, that would be amazing, but I think someone would have spotted them if they were working together. Maybe the rumor I heard will turn out to be true. Ginger Reyes would fit the attractive female role that Billy seems to prefer for his bass players.

I've heard a rumor that James has been spotted with them. But it's probably bullshit. In any case, at least if James isn't with the Pumpkins he'll have a new solo album out so I can still get my Iha fix.

I really, really doubt it. There's no reason Corgan would want to keep Iha a secret if he were in fact rejoining. It seems to me that BC needs to be in the spotlight again. The more original members there are the bigger the buzz would be. BC has nothing to gain from keeping Iha's involvement secret. If he wanted to keep people away, he'd still be calling the band Zwan.
