I love Creed only because of the awesome memories I have attached to it from my childhood. But I know full-well thats pearl jam is way better but I don't have those priceless memories lingering on the notes. This ever happen to people with bad bands?

No. How can it really? If a band is bad how can they be associated with "awesome memories"? Well I guess I could see how in a way, but still I'm confused...

    Oh, well...

I liked Nickelback's "The State" album back in 2000. Wasn't in love with it or anything, but it was a pretty decent rock album and it was before they started writing the most shitty moneymaking music in history. So I guess I could see that.

And you like what you like. If you still like Creed, don't mind that people on this board would tear you apart for it. And I even liked some of Creed's debut. It was huge when I was a freshman in college. I can't say I have any memories attached to either, though

I used to like Linkin Park's album Hybrid theory when it came out. Even though I dont like them now i still dont totally want to kill them becuase they were very good times listening to that and other stuff like nevermind.

I have great memories associated with tons of cheesy songs, especially having grown up in the '80s. In fact, there are songs that I hated at the time (but a friend loved it and insisted on playing it in his car), but now when I hear those songs, it brings a smile to my face because of the memory associated with it.

I don't love Creed, never bought their albums, enjoyed some of their poppy crap when it was overplayed on the radio.
    AND,

LOVED seeing them at Woodstock 99 with Robby Krieger. Good times and a great memory.

Just re-watched some of it and Scott Stapp is trying to steal my memories. Man that guy is hard to watch.

I'm not sure how, but it definitely happens. I have tons of great memories of hangin' out with my friends in college, trippin' on various unmentionables, and listening to goofy bands like Offspring or Sublime or Crystal Method. If I hear those bands I laugh at how good they sounded back then to me.
  • i can associate some pretty good memories with third eye blind, the goo goo dolls, the offspring, and about a dozen other bad 90's bands... but in retrospect im able to separate those memories from the music... its still fun to listen to that shit with friends though

What is wrong with liking Creed? So your music tastes have changed. It happens. People dislike Creed on here because they took over PJ's fame after PJ stopped making music that the general public liked.

We are trained on here to think popular music is bad music. I've never understood the argument that music that 200,000 people like is better than music 10,000,000 people like.

i can understand your anti-indie sentiment... the hipster crowd has gotten even worse than the tasteless crowd lately... BUT were talking the same majority that re-elected bush in 2004... the same majority that enjoys nascar... the majority of people in this country arent the sharpest tools in the shed... theres plenty wrong with liking creed and theres plenty wrong with liking nickleback and its not just because ive been brainwashed by PJ or the fans on this website

I think the issue with Creed among Pearl Jam fans is the many inaccurate comparisons of Stapp to Vedder. That fuels a lot of dislike. Plus I think it was Creed's bassist who slammed Vedder in an interview in 2000 or so when Creed got immensely popular. He said something along the lines of "Eddie Vedder wishes he could write like Scott Stapp."

Oh, and popular music often IS bad music, at least for the last 10 years or so. Many exceptions before that. When Pearl Jam was the biggest band in the world, they were a great band. When Guns N' Roses was the biggest band in the world, they were a great band. When The Police was the biggest band in the world, they were a great band. The Beatles are still ridiculously popular to this day and I'd say they are loved by pretty much everyone on this board.

Fine, Nickleback making music that they enjoy making, and 10,000,000 people enjoy listening to is a terrible thing. You don't have to like it, but guess what, you don't have to hate it either. The ONLY reason you would hate it is if you were jealous. Otherwise, you would just let their music go. This holier than thou crap needs to go.

Yes Pearl Jam is better than Creed, but someone shouldn't feel bad they have memories associated with Creed. Someone should feel bad that they are arrogant indie worshipers.

Hey, what did music ever do to you that you would insult it thusly? Creed isn't music. Even Jeebus hates Creed... and Nickelback.

... just because it's kind of snobbery. Of course many times it's just because pop music is really simple and empty, without deeper meaning - and here we are - what people want from music - only fun or sth more?
Anyway - maybe i'm snob. Recently i think i am in some case... i just bought an album which is rather hard to get, even it's not-so-good-music, but it's my favourite artist, and now i feel like a snob.
probably many people in here are snobs, believing they are special listening music not-for-masses.

Maybe You are right. For me this one about bassist - Brian Marshall- yes, this one has meaning for me. I can't be objective when sb jeer at any PJ member. I can do that myself;) (with all my respect for Them), but sb strange? I don't care about comparing Scott Stapp to Ed, I can't see any similarities, but the second one. And who said it? I don't know if any song of Creed or Alter Bridge Brian Marshall has co-written (as far as I know, only Mark Tremonti and Stapp wrote songs), so that's why i'm angry that he could say sth like this
Not 10c member? Have sth to say? write to me - I'll put it on the forum

  • Creed are not a bad band, its just Scott Stapps being apart of it thats the problem.

people dislike Creed on here because they put out nothing but awful music. There was a sound that was popular at the time and they humped it dry.

And you do realize you're on a message board for one of the most popular bands of the 90s, right? I'm pretty sure most of us are fine with listening to a band that 10,000,000 people like. The only difference is, Pearl Jam got to where they are by writing good songs. The people who liked Creed ONLY listened to the radio and never really looked deeper into music for something better. That's the only scenario that can make sense. If people had been paying attention to music and digging a little deeper, Creed never would have been an issue

I see exactly what he is saying. I used to love Korn and Dammit by Blink when I was young because of the cool memories. Hell even NSYNC's "Bye Bye BYe" song just because of those memories. Today, I wouldn't be caught dead listening Nsync or even Blink. (except dammit of course)

ya see, now the only problem is, Nickelback doesn't write music that they like, they write music that the know those 10,000,000 will like and in turn, pay money for. Why else have they released the same album like 4 times under different names? Nickelback is more of a company than a band. If they started merchandising like crazy, they could be the new KISS
