Guilty Pleasures: Overblown Rock Ballads & Anthems

I was inspired to start this thread this morning after hearing "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" by Sir Elton on the radio coming into work. I just HAD to sit in the parking lot until that damn song was over. I'll be humming it all day.

You're a bluebird on a telegraph line, I hope you're happy now... :D

What are some other favorite overblown, melodramatic rock ballads & anthems? The Who has a bushel of 'em. And I think our own PJ might qualify for one or two as well.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States, Barack Obama."

"Obama's main opponent in this election on November 4th (was) not John McCain, it (was) ignorance."~Michael Moore

    Journey - Greatest Hits

    Such a talented band
Such cheesy songs as well, but I still like them and they made some great wedding tunes

Hell yeah! It's all about Faithfully and Open Arms! Damn I love those songs.

I also love ABBA. I'm not sure if Fernando fits this category. My husband hates it when I tell people I like ABBA.

My wife is off seeing Mama Mia! tonight, I've resolved myself to her continued love of ABBA.

    I'd add:

    Freebird - Skynrd
Surrender - Cheap Trick (don't know if this one qualifies)
    In the Ghetto - Elvis

And Neil Diamond certainly would qualify, although it may not be 'rock'...
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

I must admit that when I hear "Lick it Up" by Kiss on the radio everything must stop and everyone around must commence to rocking out.

    Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
    Spread Your Wings - Queen

Even great bands fell victim to it.

what are you talking about? all of Queen's ballads were overblown... as well as the songs that weren't ballads.

also, comfortably numb is so not the right kind of song for this thread. far too credible.
