Yes, it is very poppy and has a TFE feel. Very Machine era pumpkins.

    well...

ok...but it sounds like beverly hills 90210 theme sang by
drunken ben savage the star of boy meets world (now boy meets booze)

    sucks

  • Hmmm....

It does sound like a Future Embrace outtake.

Not that bad, but nowhere near as good as Doomsday or Tarantula.

I am really starting to like it! Granted, I have only had the song about 20 min HAHA. I can see why it's a b-side though. :O)

Tilt was a Future Embrace B-side and is better than most of the songs on the album. As for Death From Above, I've listened to it once and thought it was just okay.

The whole album is out there now.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?
  • The whole album is out there now.

Yep, I have a slight feeling that if you were to check, oh say Netphoria or Oink that you just might be able to find the album...

But I could be wrong of course! =)

yeah i read it right before i read this thread and the fact that you said that made me laugh really really hard. It does suck that Savage is having problems though, i always enjoyed him on boy meets world

Few songs in and it's sounding wicked! I was meant to be waiting for the cd to come out, but what the hell!

I don't have even the slightest affection for The Smashing Pumpkins (no more annoying and pretentious bit out there) but since this is such a momentus occasion, I found it and downloaded it in order to give it a fair listen.

It sounds like The Smashing Pumpkins....and it doesn't sound bad at all. So I figure if I find it even remotely rockingly pleasant, then real SP fans will be very happy.

    I hope you folks are.

I enjoy it. While I will agree with a few who I've spoken with, it does lack that SP touch that always makes a Pumpkins album special and different. On the other hand, it's just a straight forward rock album, and that's not bad at all considering most shit that passes for rock is completely pitiful.

so all the b-sides have actually leaked too? all i've heard is "Death From Above" and "Gossamer (Live)"

and as far as the album goes...i'm pretty disappointed so far and i'm a big smashing pumpkins fan...but thats only after 2 listens so maybe it'll grow on me...it's not bad but as of right now i rank it as my least fav album

No, only Death From Above has leaked. Gossamer has no studio version anounced yet.

I really am liking this CD. There are a few songs that I think are just 'alright' but the first 7 or 8 songs are all amazing! A+! I like the flow of the record overall though. I think the only problem that I am having is I love the older SP stuff so much it's kind of hard to compare this with Gish/SD/MCIS/Adore, and even Machina. I do think this is way better then antyhing Billy has done since Adore.

    I give it a thumbs up! :O)

I'm having trouble getting into this. It just doesn't sound like a true Smashing Pumpkins to me...yet.

that's how i am...tho i do really like gossamer a lot and wish it woulda been on this album...hopefully there is a studio version out there somewhere
  • I've listened to "Zeitgeist" about 5 times now, and I think it shapes up well... It's definately the poppiest of the Pumpkins albums.

I think the first seven tracks (thru United States) sound vintage Pumpkins, hard rockers, and come across well... The last 5 songs aren't bad, they are just a lot different.

Take '(Come On) Let's Go' that has commercial single written all over it, very bouncy.

Some of the stuff at the end of the disc, along with the b-side 'Death From Above' sound like maybe they were left over from Billy's solo project, more synthy/electronic driven numbers.

All in all, I like the way it stacks up and I'd say it's the 3rd best Pumpkins album to date, behind SD and MCIS. It's a shame Gossamer didn't make the album.
