Just got this in a "This Day In Led Zeppelin History" newsletter that I subscribe to.
Sounds too good to be true and why did they wait so long?

LED ZEPPELIN DVD AND CD NEWS: "THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME" DESTINED
FOR REISSUE IN NOVEMBER

Fourteen songs from Led Zeppelin's three nights at Madison Square
Garden in July 1973 have been remixed and remastered in 2007 for
release this November on new DVD and CD sets.

"We have revisited 'The Song Remains The Same,' and can now offer the
complete set as played at Madison Square Garden," Page said in a
statement issued on the 34th anniversary of the first of those New
York concerts. "When it comes to 'The Song Remains The Same,' the
expansion of the DVD and soundtrack are as good as it gets on the Led
Zeppelin wish list."

The reissued packaging of "The Song Remains the Same," set for
release on Nov. 20 from Warner Home Video, is to include liner notes
from Cameron Crowe, whose film "Almost Famous" closely resembled his
own journey to near-stardom when he traveled with Led Zeppelin and
struggled to land an interview with Page.

The limitations of the LP format in 1976 prevented the double-album
soundtrack from containing all 14 songs. In fact, six were missing
from it: "Black Dog," "Over The Hills And Far Away," "Misty Mountain
Hop," "Since I've Been Loving You," "The Ocean" and "Heartbreaker. "
These tunes will be included on the CD soundtrack for the first time
this year.

"This differs substantially from the original soundtrack released in
1976," said Page, "and highlights the technical prowess of Kevin
Shirley, who worked with us on 'How The West Was Won.'" That album,
capturing live performances from two dates in June 1972, was released
in May 2003 alongside the visually spectacular career-spanning live
set simply called "Led Zeppelin DVD."

As with that release, the new "The Song Remains the Same" DVD will
benefit from 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound. One deluxe edition
will be in high-definition DVD. Another edition will be in the Blu-
ray format. All will contain complete versions of songs featured only
partially in the film's original theatrical release, as well as clips
from television interviews and a radio show involving Crowe.

Nice! The Song Remains the Same was cool for what it was, but was a pretty substandard production. Adding the missing pieces and cleaning it up - this will be an amazing release. Totally looking forward to this!

The Song Remains the same is a mediocre performance. Jimmy needs to put out some more live cd's of great Zeppelin performances.
  • Wait... if it's being remastered, does the song technically remain the same?
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

    Wow, this is terrific news!!!!!
  • Can't wait for this!! I'm not sure how different the actual feature will be... Just cleaned up and the sound improved i'd imagine...

The extra features with the songs not in the original will be the killer!! :D
  • The "How the West Was Won" DVDs are more than enough Zeppelin for me.

That is a cool dvd. I rented it from Netflix once. It was really cool, and loved the live performances.

  • Nice! In HD-DVD as well. :D
    NERDS!
  • The "How the West Was Won" DVDs are more than enough Zeppelin for me.

Led Zeppelin has never released dvd's with that title. They wouldn't win the West at Knebworth, Earl's Court, or Royal Albert Hall, would they? They could I suppose.

    It's titled simply: Led Zeppelin

They announced this a couple months ago. Should be kickass with the extra tunes and the same team that worked on the last dvd.
  • Wait... if it's being remastered, does the song technically remain the same?

I have the bootlegs of the 2 nights and they took bits and pieces of both nights to construct the songs. Listen to Dazed & Confused from the soundtrack, and then from the movie. There's stuff in both that are, and are not, the same as each other.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

I don't think they are gonna rework any of the arrangements. I dunno how much vid they got of Page in the whole wizard getup, but they would have to at least re-edit all of that stuff if they are gonna rearrange the jam at the end.

I just don't think that the show was Zeppelin at their best. An earlier show on DVD would probably be much better. That being said, I'll probably pick it up anyway.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

There is no more salvagable Zeppelin video. Page used it all up, on the S/T dvd.
