he had some amazing songs but some of his albums didnt do it for me. sitting is one of my favorite songs of his but catch bull wasnt that great of an album. his live shows were great though. i have a nice little collection of bootleggs of his shows and not one bad show. i really hope he tours again cause i havent figured out this time machine thing yet.
If Cat Stevens was to play a show solo, acoustic, all his old CAT STEVENS songs, I'd skip a complete LOST DOGS show from front row in the smallest club with Pearl Jam playing over 24 hours straight...
I LOVE CAT STEVENS!!!

You mean the Vic show?;)
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.
I certainly don't think he's a genius, but he made two classic albums in Tea For The Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat. Genius is a term I'd reserve for someone who creates a genre, and Cat was hardly the first folky-beardy singer songwriter. In fact, his early career was decidedly pop:
Bought Tea for the tillerman recently and was really impressed with it.
My father had two greatest hits of the sixties tapes that he played in the car when I was young. I loved it then and found out and checked out the great bands and artist on it. "matthew and son" was one such song.

He has some brilliant songs and Eddie does the covers of C,S even better,I think Ed should do an acoustic of WHERE DO THE CHILDREN PLAY in his solo shows, lyrics seem to really suit Eddie's beliefs from his song writing and I think Ed would blow the hell out of this song
Always enjoyed his music but I do think he came across as arrogant at the Rock n Roll HOF induction.
really, I thought he came across as incredibly humble.
he made a few jokes, was light hearted and he ended his speech really well. In fact Cats speech was one of the better ones, and his performances, well they were a true master class. He sounded sublime.
"I'm not the best of you but I'm not the worst" and "I never thought I'd share a stage with KISS" were both lines that to me came across as arrogant. It was his delivery more than the lines themselves. Also, I respect that he doesn't drink or smoke or do drugs but I felt he was a little preachy about it.

That "best/worst" thing was funny, it was clearly a joke. so was the kiss thing. I dunno. He seemed incredibly sincere, no walls, just speaking from his heart. (so it seemed)
the drugs/drink thing, I dunno, I do drugs and don't find what he said to be arrogant, it made sense as he was speaking about the complexities of the rock n roll fraternity etc.

Bill Murray enjoyed those lines.
interesting note, Bill Murray just sold a script to Sony? With 4 Cat Stevens songs in it.

Having said that, I've enormous love and respect for the man and his work.

On the way home from work tonight I heard PJ's cover of Don't Be Shy from Boise '00.
I just might have to spin some Cat today.
