I very much like Screaming Trees.

Am I alone in preferring Dust to Sweet Oblivion? I can't be surely?
so much more mature as a record. excellent stuff.

I love the Trees. I will never understand why they weren't more popular. Sweet Oblivion and Dust are both nearly perfect rock albums. As much as I love Lanegan's solo stuff, I really miss Gary Lee Connor's psychedelic guitar work backing him up.
  • I hear ya!

You are not alone jeremy...dust is indeed a tunefest superior to sweet oblivion, its just subtle.

    mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, time for gospel plow
  • Oh my god......probably my Top 3 band now. Between the lyrics of Conner bros and Lanegan they are godly.....

I see Dust and Sweet Oblivion equal because Dust has a song I don't like (Traveler) and SO has a song I'm not really into (Nearly Lost You....yes Nearly Lost You). Lanegan's voice is so smoke filled and "simple" (as in he doesnt really try to hold notes long) that you wonder how the songs ever ick up but boy when they do you can't help but smile.....

But these lyrics are fucking great:

Dead end street, just out my back door
I heard what's seemed, a young girl laughing
Now raindrops fall away like souls
I wondered if she ever heard mine dying

That is just pure brilliant. Then there is song's like Julie Paradise and Witness that are fucking brilliant too.

I think Sweet Oblivion sounds alot different than the other ones.
But I kind of agree about Nearly Lost You. Its the song that turned me on to the album, but now it has alittle more of a pop sound (not that its anything near pop music) but still you get it.

  • ^^^Ha same here.
  • i love them...just got sweet oblivion...
i do not know much about all this technical stuff but somehow they managed to sound heavy and fluffy at one time on this record...at least that's my impression

and marks voice is so damn sexy ;)

    Sweet Oblivion=10/10
    Dust=10/10 points

buzz factory really has some great music, but the production is terrible.

I just know "nearly lost you" from singles...I like that song but Im not familiar with the rest of their stuff.
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.

  • Nearly Lost You and Butterfly I can't really stand to listen to anymore. Songs like No One Knows and Winter Song make it all worth while though. I suggest you start with Sweet Oblivion, Dust, Uncle A., Buzz Factory and then their greatest hits.

I found Sweet Oblivion in a pawn shop in Reno Nevada. I fell in love with the cd, and especially am fond of Dollar Bill. There is also Ocean of Confusion, that came out in 2005. Has 19 songs, with the best on it. Who ever wrote that they didn't look go on MTV (something like that), is pretty much the truth. The two brothers in the band, were big overweight guys, very talented obviously, but not fitting the grunge image record companies were trying to portray. If you like Screaming Trees, you might like Mad Season. The players were Layne Staley, singer (alice in chains), Mike Mccready guitar (PJ), Barrett Martin, drums(Screaming Trees), and John B Saunders, bass (The Walkabouts).
The story is they all hooked up in rehab. I don't know if that is true, but
it makes a good story. #X.

  • Who's wants to believe with me that the Screaming Trees WILL get back together and WILL melt our faces off again.
  • What cd of theirs is the best to start with?
  • Sweet Oblivion or Dust
  • Thanks, I'll definetly check it out. I've looked for their stuff at stores and it's not easy to find I'll prob just download them off Itunes.
