i'm a bigger fan or reznor's original version. Don't get me wrong, i like Cash's version, and it's very, very emotional watching the images of Cash's life flash by, because he was certainly an amazing and talented musician. I just connect with Reznor as a musician more than i do Cash.

  • not only do i like reznors version better but i cant stand cashs. its not the worst cover ever but its just not that good in my opinion. and what really bothers me is most people that ive talked to that like cashs version praise the video more than the song it self. its like they think the song is moving because of the images more than the lyrics. and if thats the case give the producer/directors credit not cash.
  • Let me be the first to post something good in here, and different from the delusional people that have been posting. Reznor's and Cash's versions are both great in and of themselves. But anyone who appreciates music has to feel that there is some power behind Cash's version. To create something like this, with raw emotion in the vocals, on your deathbed, is something of a gift. Reznor himself was in tears after watching the video for the first time. To have a stamp of approval from some guy covering the song you wrote, he must have been doing something right.

The version is haunting and great, much like Reznor's was.....only done differently.

  • Its rare that a cover is better than the original, but i like cashs' better. little off the subject but, are there any other covers better than the original? One that comes to mind for me...maybe not better but good...metalica covering bob seager.

I think Cash covered it better but I guess that's debatable.

I wouldn't say I like it better, but it is quite provocative. :)
