Did anyone see "American Hardcore" and if so what did you think?

I was a little dissapointed, The Anti-Heroes weren't represented at all and I just read an interview in "the stranger" with Danzig being a little dissapointed, but the Misfits weren't hardcore, so I don't get his argument? Oh and I think they could have easily included Suicidal Tendencies, but maybe they were too technical, but so are Bad Brains.

I have no Idea what "American Hardcore" is, but what do you mean by saying "they could have easily included Suicidal Tendencies, but maybe they were too technical, but so are Bad Brains"
    Suicidal is too technical?

It was a documentary, I put the link up.

Yeah compared to some of these hardcore bands being showcased? Don't you think?

  • The director of AMERICAN HARDCORE, Paul Rachman, also directed the TEMPLE OF THE DOG "Hunger Strike" video featuring members of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. It was also the first music video to feature Eddie Vedder singing!
  • well the misfits were definitly a blue print for "Hardcore" there is no denying that... The movie was alright but the book is better and mentions the Misfits alot... as far as Danzig goes... he's a bitch!
  • I thought it was pretty cool, Ian Mackaye drops some knowledge

Wasn't impressed, though I did think the idea of moving from scene/city to the next was an interesting one. Can't evaluate it as representative of the music, as I don't know much hardcore. I didn't feel particularly enlightened though.
  • I have seen it numerous times. I like some of it, like the discussion of record folding nights where a band like Minor Threat would spend an evening creating all of their record sleeves by hand. I'm a big Black Flag fan, so any footage with them was good in my opinion(which was a lot). The explanation of straight edge was short and to the point without being too long winded. They talked about Suicidal Tendencies briefly, around the same point when they are talking about other bands like L.A.D.S.

But, as usual, no mention of the Misfits or the Dead Kenedys... which I have read is due to legal reasons... although according to the original post Danzig was upset they were not mentioned, so who knows.

It's a good watch in my opinion.
