Narrowing it to ten will be very tough.

    1. Led Zeppelin
    2. Jimi Hendrix
    3. Red Hot Chili Peppers
    4. Jane's Addiction
    5. Pearl Jam
    6. Neil Young
    7. John Coltrane (especially the classic quartet with McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones and Jimmy Garrison)
    8. Tribe Called Quest
    9. Dinosaur Jr.
    10. Public Enemy

As far as order, the first three are pretty much set in stone. Everything after that is subject to change.
  • Neil Young
    Black Sabbath
    Black Crowes
    Gov't Mule
    Alice In Chains
    Frank Zappa
    Clutch
    Bob Dylan

    Led Zeppelin
    Pearl Jam
    Pink Floyd
    Black Crowes
    Tool
    Beatles
    The Mars Volta
    Guns N Roses
    Hendrix

These are the bands that I can listen to from song 1 on album 1, all the way to listenin to some supershitty quality bootleg, just to hear some rare cover or unreleased song. I can't get into too much of the early Beatles stuff, the from Rubber Soul on is just swell though.

edit: kinda crazy that almost everybody here has a common band with everybody else and its not even PJ.
