American IV is prob my favorite. It's from when he was getting up there in years. If I were you, I would try and find one of the many greatest hits albums that people love to release.

my first johnny cash experience (other than knowing random songs like ring of fire, etc) was i found a double cd package, Folsom Prison and San Quentin, together..........so get them. cos they both fucken kick ass.
