First of all I know most people here won't care about this since he's a rapper but I'm so excited right now.

He's playing a free show at Webster Hall for only 500 people and I got a ticket through some random website. They've been sold out for days but I just decided to try again and it actually worked.

http://www.1iota.com/ticketing.aspx : theres the site for people who are interested. There are other performers on there too.

Kweli is my favorite rapper with Nas being my second... and I didn't even know they were touring together!?!

I'll post here how it was. Now I'm happy I didn't drop money when he came here a few weeks ago. With this show I'm now going to hit 20 shows this year!!!! (including the 5 other shows I have tix to)

The best hip hop show I've seen to this day was During Common's Electric Circus tour when he had the Soulquarians as his touring band.

Talib and Gang Starr opened. It was sick.
    NERDS!
  • Nice score on the Nas ticket! I saw him once about a decade ago, but back then he was in the middle of his shit era, lol. He's come a looooong way back to being one of the finest artists out there.

I also saw Kweli twice back in the 98-00 era...once with Mos Def and once on his own...the man rocks hard!

I disagree. Its his worst effort so far IMO.
    Illmatic and God's Son, reign.
Won't you come see me, Queen Jane....

    Leaving the pillow alone tonight
And I can see for miles
Speak father with all your might
    Drive in one last nail
I’d walk right into your hands
From the end of the earth
    I’d make one final stand
If you could see what I’m worth

Nas is one of the few rappers I like. Enjoy the show.

That said, his new album was a huge disappointment excluding a few songs. I can't help but be annoyed by all the nigger and slavery references.

Was kinda the basis for the album...it's like being annoyed with Neil Young for all the war references on Living with War.

I know. I just find that subject played out and boring. I could write an entire essay on the subject. "Look at me, I'm black and my ancestors had a tough life. Screw the white man!". Shut up and write some original material. We've heard all that crap before.

Actually, there's none of this on the album. Come to think of it, except for a quick reference to slavery in the hook (which purpose wasn't at all to do what you're saying) in "N.I.G.G.E.R," he doesn't even really talk about slavery. The album discusses institutional racism on an intelligent level, instead of just saying "screw the white man," and encourages rising above it. I think you should give the record a more thorough listen.

i was far more annoyed by the weak beats and lame, pedestrian r&b hooks. way too slick for an album as pointed as this one. it's a shame really, because some of the lyrics on here are so good. if anything made me uncomfortable, it wasn't the nigger and slavery references, it was 'testify' where he basically calls out suburban white kids who eat up hip hop records but still support the racist system.

i didn't care for god's son, and never bothered with nastradamus. the rest of his albums are all pretty mind-blowing, even the ones largely considered "weaker." it's kind of like pearl jam i guess. riot act was a definite slip for them, but still beats most of what's out there. i feel the same about albums like 'i am' or street's disciple.

I hear ya. Testify is questionable...I see where he's coming from and who he wants to make question themselves, but it misses the target. When the album was released someone had mentioned the slick production...I had mentioned that "there really are only 3-4 out of the 15 tracks that can be considered slick production, and because 3 of them appear in the first 5 tracks, it can give a bad first impression and overshadow how you listen to the album."

Breathe and Make the World Go Round are "overly slick," Hero borders on being too slick as well, and Y'all My Niggas is pretty slick.

The show was awesome. It was crazy getting in because there were soooo many people- I highly doubt everyone made it inside. The show was a nice mix of new stuff and old stuff and Webster Hall is really small, which is great. He's definitely worth seeing if you like his stuff. Illmatic songs made the crowd go absolutely nits.

    This basically.

I've always thought that Nastradamus gets an unfairly bad rep though. It's by no means great but there's some good songs there.
