  • no disrespect, but it was pretty clear that their sets would overlap way back when they first announced the stage lineups (which prceeded the tickets on-sale date). i'd been looking forward to seeing the roots again, but i cant miss kol or radiohead!

How do you figure? A lot of festivals have the last couple acts on the main stage play when the other stages are already closed.
And this festival was billed all having less acts so that they coud perform longer. But that didnt happene either.
And for the price they should have put the more known acts on at different times. Especially when there are a lot of bands there that most people have never heard of.

ACL Festival has been doin it liek that since day one. Yes the main headliner will go longer than others, but still there is always going to be some overlap in festival sets....that way they can spread people out over the festival site

what i find funny is the people who complain about spending "all that money" to only see 2 acts at a festival....your the idiot that should just wait and see both bands seperately as opposed to shelling out $100 for two festival sets(which will be much shorter than a usual concernt set

and you have to be smoking crack to think that that lineup sux.....some great bands are on that lineup, but since its not KOL or Radiohead you guys want to whine?? get off yous asses and enjoy something NEW

Are you half retarded? You have no idea who I listen to so dont comment on how I need to listen to good music. Can a person vent about having to miss one of their favorite bands without some elitist asshole like yourself making stupid comments?
Go make another thread about how much you know about good music.

wow....takin things a tad bit personal eh??? what, does the truth hurt?(you do realize I was saying YOU GUYS....I never implied I was talking directly to you)

all Im saying is you knew all along that this festival was going to have overlapping set times...it happens ALL THE TIME.

thats one of the downfalls of festivals...you gotta give up half a set to catch the beginning of another.....grow up and deal with it...theres no sense in whining about it.

It wasn't meant to be personal???

You put something I said into quotes. And what you just said that last post was a lot different than what you said earlier. You referred to the rest of the people who wrote here as idiots and asked if we were smoking crack. So don't give me that shit that it wasn't personal.

Yes I know acts overlap, all I said was that they put two of my favorite bands on at the same time and those two bands are much more well known than most of the bands there. Is that not a valid point? Look at their record sales compared to some of the others? I didn't say that the other bands are bad, just less known.

And lastly, you say it wasn't personal but then you say grow up and deal with it. Yea, nothing you said was personal.

Ok, so I guess it wasn't "clear," since I employed lots of assumption. I just figured the 2nd stage would start around 2pm and I'd give 1.5 hours to each set (with setup/breakdown time). That'd mean The Roots would be done around 8...which most likely would overlap with KOL. Yes, it could have been a completely different setup, but at the very least, looking at the original lineups and seeing how many bands there were, I assumed a VERY STRONG chance that Roots and KOL would overlap. For whatever it's worth, I've spoken with 8 other people who'd always assumed similar (one who made fun of me that I'd have to choose between KOL and The Roots).

They actually added a band to the 2nd stage, but thankfully are starting those sets earlier than I'd anticipated, so it still finishes around the time I estimated.

So in the end, I didn't mean to sound as if I were taking you to task for something that ultimately wasn't so "clear." So I'm sorry that I did that. Just keep in mind that just like you assumed that this would be like other festivals you said finish off the 2nd stage before the final couple of acts on the 1st stage, it could have just easily been like it actually is...in either case, assumptions can be wrong.

I guess I got fooled with all the talk of APW having less bands so they can play longer sets at different times. I guess people on message boards just made all that stuff up. I'm happy I got a ticket anyway- I've decided I'm leaving KoL halfway through the set because I like The Roots a tad bit more and I've been a fan of theirs longer. Also, I was supposed to see them in May but the show was postponed and I can't make the new date.

And no need to apologize- what did you see I went off on the other guy and you got scared :). Haha just kidding.

I don't think some people have an idea of why ALL festivals have bands over lap, it's pretty simple, they can't have bands they know people want to see start at say 5:00 and end at 6:00 and then have another band start at 6:00. They don't do that and have them over lap because if they didn't then EVERYONE would be moving in the same direction at once.

They make it like this so you have to make a choice, half the crowd stays to watch the last 30 mins. of the band playing and the other half leaves to see the first 30 mins. of the band that is starting. It's not rocket surgery.

Wow thanks for that wonderful explanation. Did I question why they were making any of the bands overlap? No, I was questioning why they were making the two most popular bands there that day besides the headliners overlap.

i dunno i think 2 hours of radiohead is worth 100bux alone... maybe it's just me.

plus there are some other kick ass bands on the lineup so for the 300bux for the full weekend i don't think it's that bad. It sucks that if i decide to go i won't be able to see grizzly bear or the roots, but there are other bands playing that i want to see more, so that's how it goes. 4 hours of radiohead on back to back nights will destroy anything, so i don't think anyone will be ripped off.

the only thing that would make 4 hours of Radiohead seem like nothing would be for Phish to reunite and play instead of Trey just playing with the TAB band

I don't think it's that hard to understand why, they don't want thousands of people moving around at one time, regardless if they are the 2 most "popular" bands or not. It's pretty simple, they make you decide who you are willing to see or not, you have to make a choice. That's how most festivals work, if you don't like it don't go, I wasn't trying to offer some "wonderful explanation" as you put it, if you're to dumb to figure it out yourself, it's your own damn fault or don't post on a BB bitching about why they are doing it like that.

If the last 3 bands on the main stage after the others closed how would that cause more people to move then when Radiohead plays all alone? Think about it.

I know why they did it, but it isnt necessary. Youre the idiot for just thinking it is.
