What's your favorite vinyl album to listen to?

Okay a few basic guidelines:
1. Make your decision based on an album as a whole, how its split up between side A and B, album art, and sound quality. i.e. Zep III is a kick ass album, duh, but also side a and are both genius separate, crazy ass vinyl art, and finally this album sounds better on vinyl.
2. Make a decision that are not Pearl Jam albums, that would make things real difficult if you had to choose between them.
3. No unofficial bootlegs, this will also make things hard because of sound quality of some of the boots. Live at Leads is an official bootleg.

The reason for all these guidelines is so that you can put some real thought in to this decision, and listen to your vinyl collection.

So what mine?

"Everybody Knows This is Nowhere"-Neil Young

One of Uncle Neil's early solo albums on Reprise and JESUS its FUCKING AWESOME!!!

Side A: Cinnamon Girl, Every body know this is nowhere, round and round, down by the river.

Side B: the losing end, running dry, cowgirl in the sand.

goodness stacked on goodness. the sound, the art is classic neil.

When I get a new turntable I'll have a favorite.

Last year a friend and I went to Best Buy a device to record vinyl to my computer. So I asked one of the employees there and he said, *what's vinyl* my friend and we laughed. The youth had no clue what it was, we explained what it was then we asked him if he ever heard of 8-track player?

Now I know for sure I'm from the old school. :)

I would either go with Neil Young's "Tonight's the Night" or David Gilmour's "On An Island."

    wow tough question, but here:

Led Zepp- Song Remains the same soundtrack. Each side is a different vibe, they all rock. Sentimental value for me too, mustve done mushrooms for the video 20 times. Great performances, one of the reasons seeing PJ at MSG is a must for me.

My Morning Jacket - 4 Lp Box Set Of Okonokos. Loving this. ive only had it 5 days, its almost worn out :) the side with laylow and dondante is amazing. the photos for each side of each LP sleeve are wicked too. 8 Total.

Beatles Abbey Road - TWO WORDS = side two. medley. wow.

Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street. Great sides, again. Each one is its own journey. Wicked art, came with some uncut postcards too. What an album. Ie side one: Rocks off, Rip this joint, Shake Your Hips, Casino Boogie, Tumbling Dice. tough to beat.

Neil Young Rust never sleeps. Uncle Neil at his best. Lyric sheet to sing along with, Sleeve art and of course "pocahontas".

Anything Pearl Jam i have every studio, except binaural and they all sound great.

what did ed say about vinyl? its like reading the cereal box while eating the cereal? or something to that effect?

Big Black's Atomizer, closely followed by New Day Rising by Husker Du.

Vinyl almost makes the former sound warm and gives it some mid and low frequencies. Almost.

  • Led Zeppelin III was, for me, probably the most atmospheric vinyl to hit the needle. All the little crackles and pops and warmth add something to that album that, when taken away and "digitaly cleaned", sound sterile and dead.

Side II going in to Going to California and Tangerine, up through Thats The Way is fucking incredible on vinyl!

    :D
