I can't believe that Amazon trumped the 10C on announcing this sale. i would have at least posted on the homepage about it. At least what it is and a release date. Hope they don't wait till Feb/Mar to announce a pre-sale. Can't wait to see what's in store that they need 4 vinyls. i hate to say it but I think I'll have to spring for it. I am saving for the next tour now so maybe I'll dip into that fund in March for this.

At the end of the day its still just a studio recording that came out 18 years ago filled with songs you've already heard. A lot. Save the money for a couple of tickets and a poster at the show and be glad you were able to share in an experience rather than sit in your room and listen to a CD.

Besides, studies have shown that people who spend their money on events such as concerts, going out to eat, movies etc. are happier than those who spend their money on material possessions.

Me too, d - me too.

For those griping about the release, I'm sure it'll have a fair swathe of previously unreleased material on it - it's hardly as if it'll only be the previously released album repeated six times across two CD's and four LP's...and cassette.

I'm sitting here thinking about how many new albums I've never heard before could be purchased for $199 or even $40.

I'm not even tempted at this point.
  • talk about Green Disease...I'm sure, as many have said, this is driven by the label. But doesn't the band have SOME say? And, don't get me wrong: I'm all for anyone making as much money as they possibly can. But those that rail on others who are trying to make as much money as they can shouldn't be re-issuing their original record for no real reason other than to, ahem, make money. I mean, who has been clamoring for a re-release of Ten?

Again, god love them...I hope they sell millions of new copies and more people realize the greatness of this band. I bow at the alter of PJ every day and take every opportunity to tout their greatness to whoever will put up with my ramblings.

But...this certainly lessens their ability/street cred to be all high and mighty about those who pursue the all mighty dollar.

Not to mention that with our current economic conditions it doesn't look too good when you're milking an old album for all it's worth.
  • Amazon does this type of thing all the time. As soon as they get word of a popular release either music or DVD, they put up a listing hoping to get the early pre-orders. That's also why there is either no discount or a low discount. Usually it's because the release details aren't 100% finalized yet. They guarantee if the price drops you get it for that. So say you pre-order the cd/DVD for $40, they are covered if the price increases a little, but if the final set price gets lowered to $35, then they'll adjust their price accordingly and the buyer still gets a good deal.

So you can pretty much guarantee if those are the final MSR prices for the items, they'll end up dropping their price to anywhere from 15%-30% from what they are now.

I myself prefer to order from the 10C, so hopefully we'll get word when the releases are 100% finalized.

right...I meant to reference that point. I mean, I'm not fooling anyone: I'm going to buy this freakin' thing and I'm going to love it, I'm sure. I'll feel a little bad about buying it but I'm an addict, I have no choice. I imagine many people here are in the same boat.

The cynical side of me says they are taking advantage of this fact. And they certainly have the right to do that...it just seems to diverge from their persona.

Well it depends. I can buy it and save up for the next tour if its not going to be too soon.
I'll probably place the pre order and figure out a way to fund the next tour.

....and trust me, I'll take concerts and posters over recordings any day of the week. but if I can have both.....
