Hey....

The other night I went to Sunrise to buy a few cd's and was FLOORED when I saw a big tub of BRAND NEW vinyl records being sold, as well as a USB record player to play them on.....

There were only about 40 records there....but almost all new bands (by new I mean bands that have come out since digital recording) with a few exceptions.

Anyway, important thing is, I asked the lady working there what was up with the vinyl. Her response was "The more we sell, the more we'll get."

SO....get out to your local Sunrise and start buying up some vinyl.....

I went to a Soundcheck Records store and saw a few vinyls there, too. (Stuff like the Foo Fighters latest album) I don't think I saw any players, though. I really hope CDs and vinyls stick around.
    Thanks EPOTTSIII!

  • Me too. It was actually shocking in the store which was once rammed with CD's to now be surrounded by a few CD's, some DVD's, a lot of music books, magazines, bobble-heads and Vinyl. Seems like they're just trying to keep afloat. And if vinyl is how they're going to do it, I'm gonna be one happy girl! :)
  • you would think with a name like Sunrise Records there would be selling records from the get go. It like Burger King not selling Burgers. Ha

  • Vinyl records are only as good as the tapes used and the person who mastered them. A lot of recent vinyl, such as the most recent Pearl Jam stuff, is mastered exactly like the CD, and therefore a waste of time. What makes vinyl records sound so great is the effort that goes into locating the right tapes and mastering and pressing them properly. CD will always be a better format, but the reason vinyl is still popular is because current digital mastering trends are out control with compression and loudness, which cannot be done to vinyl (though they try...listen to Avocado on vinyl, it sounds just as crappy as the CD)

What about 128 gram? I think ten 128 sounds a hell of a lot better then the cd

  • Same sound or not, I like to have some of the newer albums on LP because of the big beautiful album art. The Into The Wild record just LOOKS amazing. No Code is one of my favorites--the 12 x 12 polaroids are great!
Tool is a great band to get on vinyl too, because Alex Grey's artwork looks even better LP sized!

Spin, spin, spin the black circle!

It depends on the album & the mastering. The mastering is the most important thing. Records don't always sound better than the CD's, and vice versa.

I'd pay Sunrise $2 extra rather than buy from HMV or Best Buy...just as I would also rather pay 10C $2 extra if they sell me direct vs any other option.

Sunrise Records and Tapes has been around for years...Music World bit the dust recently and I'd hate to see that happen to Sunrise.

Support the independent record shops, always.

I completely agree. I have most of my 12 X 12 polaroids framed....

Another part about vinyl that I like is that it forces you to be an active listener. I mean there are days when I just turn my iPod on and let it play for hours and hours, but at the end of the day, I couldn't tell you half the songs I heard. Whereas on my vinyl days, I know exactly which side of which album I listened to. To hear a specific song, you have to put the needle in the right spot. It adds something different to the experience in my opinion....

I use to frequent the Sunrise in downtown London when I worked there, and man, did I always go there for concert tickets, they had a ticketmaster kiosk
