Live on Two Legs

I just heard the LO2L version of Better Man on the radio, and it reminded me what a beautiful album that was and is. It is often forgotten, since Pearl Jam has released about every show since than, but it is still home to one of my favorite versions of Black, Daughter, Nothingman, Off He Goes and Fuckin' Up (to name a few).

For me personally, I was in the 7th grade, at the ripe age of 13 back in 1998, and Yield and Live on Two Legs are probably the two most important albums of my life, because they are what me fall in love with this band.

I just wanted to give this little record a shout out. Now if I could only find it on vinyl my collection would be complete...

I agree. Often overlooked now due to the extensive catalog of bootlegs. I love this record and listen to it often. Perfect list of songs from the 98 tour. Good Luck on getting it for your record collection. It's out there so keep an eye out.

Its so overlooked I haven't even listened to it since the official boots began I think! I am going to dig it out now. I do recall the version of Daughter being fucking amazing, with the WMA/RITFW tags I believe?

And RiotAct10, I think I have two copies of this on vinyl. I'll check for you...

wow...we're pretty much on the same exact page on this. My dad bought me LO2L and Yield for my birthday in 2001 (I was about 16). But yes indeed they sucked me right in... Black is still my favorite version ever..the guitar intro is a little more intense. But when I heard In Hiding, that's when they grabbed hold for ever.

    cheers!

there is a very strong case for live on 2 legs being my favorite PJ recording.

    That's a big statement.

i'm with you on that. for some reason, it feels more special than any other live pearl jam i have. i used to collect tapes back in the day and i remember wishing so often that they'd release something on cd for me to listen to. then came live on two legs. and it was perfect. sure, people argued over the song choice, but the album itself perfectly captured the feel of a show circa 98. i have official boots of shows i saw, listened to a smattering of other "legendary" live releases, picked up benaroya, downloaded lolla, bought and sold the gorge... but nothing quite resonates with me like lo2l. it was the perfect album at the perfect time. it felt special at the time and still does to me. honestly, their live output is kinda overwhelming in quantity and underwhelming in novelty anymore. i appreciate what they do, but i only get shows i've been to anymore. and even then, lo2l gets played more than any other live pj i have, barring dvd's.

I'm with ya. It was the album that really got me into PJ and if I could only have one album for the rest of my life it would definitely have a good chance of being the one.

I' m with you on that also. I have a confession: I listened to Pearl Jam ever since Ten was released, but I was never a hardcore fan until my wife bought LO2L in 2000. I was into "hair"-metal growing up but like alot of people getting bored with the same-ol' predictable music, then when "grunge" took off I was all into it, and I loved the music but they were just another band to me along with Soundgarden, AIC, Nirvana, etc. I bought Vs the day it came out and loved it but still not a die-hard. I suppose if I went to alot of concerts I would have maybe seen them live and then got into them, or if the internet had been like it is now I maybe would have downloaded some live stuff and got into them. Or even if I had a friend who was into them, I would have maybe discovered how great they were live, etc. But when Vitalogy came out, I liked some songs but was turned-off by the "weird" stuff, and like most of the population didn't bother with checking out any albums after that. Now, funny story how I got into Pearl Jam: Years later, in 2000, you know those music clubs like Columbia House where you buy 8 or 10 CD's for a penny and you have to buy 4 or whatever albums in the next 2 years and they automatically send you a selection if you don't send the "No Thanks" card back in time... not even sure if they still have these... but my wife did this and they don't have a lot to choose from but she sees this Pearl Jam Live on Two Legs and knows I have a couple of PJ albums I occassionally listen to so she orders it, simply because there is nothing left on there that she likes. Well I listen to it and was just blown away. It was the first time I had heard them live. Then I go into Best Buy one day and see hundreds of thin, plain looking CD's in the Pearl Jam section, wow, a live CD of every show that tour, I was impressed. I got Seattle because it was 3 CDs. Now I'm really hooked. But since PJ has already been around my way in 2000, and they didn't tour much in '01 or '02, so it wasn't until 2003 that I got to go to my first concert. So I owe my Pearl Jam addiction to Columia House music club having L02L in their "Buy 8 CDs for a penny" selection!

I'm going to have to give it another spin. Live On Two Legs was the album that really got me into Pearl Jam in the first place. As everybody else said, the version of Black on the album is the best I've ever heard.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

  • LOTL is definitely a classic.

Honestly I wish they would release a compilation of the best tracks from each tour, especially if they could match the sound of LOTL.

Well, since this seems to be the LO2L confession chamber.

I own it, but it's the least of my played albums.
