I'm a great fan of Franz Ferdinand. I saw them live in Madrid. Anybody here like them? What do you think of them? They have great songs such as Michael, The Dark Of The Matinee, Walk Away...

They have 2 albums:
- Franz Ferdinand
- You Could Have It So Much Better

  • I think they make me sick. I listened to the first album a few times, then by the second album I couldn't stand it. Just not a fan.
Are you too good to tango with the poor poor boys?

    they're ok but I'm not a fan.
I can listen to 2 or 3 songs, but not an entire album.
I think I've become "too mature" to listen to that kind of music :D
Seriously, I used to listen to taht kind of music but now I prefer "less direct" and quieter musics (my morning jacket, three fish)...

They are alright. I saw them live and they give away a good show, a lot of energy. I just don't think their music is really special, but it's good for a brainless listen. Not too complex and fun to sing along while doing the dishes.

Same here, but that's just because too many others got interested.;) They are bigger than that their music alows them to be. It matter not. I have the first album and that's it. They do give a good show, I have to give them that.

that i will have to fully agree...very good live band..superb interaction with the crowd as well.
i'd consider myself a fan of theirs..own both their albums but din really like their 2nd one til i watched them perform the songs.
very friendly lads too when i met them after the show..and like karma said..it can be great music to just listen to as background music or for fun.

Im not a big fan of Franz (dont have their albums or anything) but did see them live and they put on a great show. I would go see them again if they came around.

    Domino isn't an indie label?

funny, this was the little buzz band here a couple years ago. oh what a difference a couple years makes.

i agree with those that think they are a good brainless listen.

According to AMG, their last album was released with Sony. Their first album was released with Domino, so technically they were an indie band, although when "Take Me Out" blew up they didn't really feel like an indie band.

No they aren't, you are absolutely right. Still the style indie is a bit hard to define. I for one think Franz is too big for indie and too middle poprocky.

Still what if a band that is infact indie makes it big does it then stop to be indie?

Still I think Franz is pop/rock.

Ah so everything that is boring is indie.;)

I know some very nice indie bands, but I think you like your music a little louder and heavier than indie.

Ok FF is playing a sub-genre of Indie. Look he's in the list ;)

I saw them twice. The first time when they were still unknown and the second time on a festival. Both times they had a lot of energy to give and they really enjoyed playing which is more than a lot of other bands can say.

I don't see that list as indie, but that's what i meant earlier that there isn't a real definition of indie. One could just say that it is independent music in which case I wouldn't immediately think of Franz and Nirvana.
there is a notion that indie is for semi acoustic country/rock that is made independently or on a small label. Bands like The Shins.

So I stop talking about Indie, because GY!BE, Mogwai, EITS and alot more are indie bands. And I like these bands.

But FF is too much pop for me.

They arent indie/ they are indie, they are indie/they arent indie. Jesus, who the hell cares what they are, you either like them or you dont.

I like plenty of bands that apparently classed as indie, but i couldnt care less about all this stupid categorising of bands, it makes it too complicated.

Some of Franz ferdinands stuff is ok in my opinion, but im not that fussed about them.
People say im paranoid. Well, they dont say it, but i know that's what they are thinking.

Indie is a very weird thing, everything gets dropped under that flag. On another forum I mentioned Godspeed and Mogwai and one person almost cut off my balls. He thought that they were post rock. I don't know what they are, but they are pretty fucking awesome. I am kind of surprised that you like Mogwai and Godspeed though. Franz Ferdinand is definitely poppy, but that doesn't necessarially mean I don't like them. I don't think I'll ever buy another album again and I'll won't go to a gig, but if they are on a festival I'll go see them. My problem with Franz (if I have in fact a problem:D) is that they are by no means as good as Mogwai or Godspeed. These are bands that matter.
