Timbaland said this has been his best work he's ever done. Quoting, "chris will be the first rockstar in the club".

Ouch. Long way from the Soundgarden reunion show.

Hmmmm using one of the best producers out there today to produce your new album..... don't see a problem there.

People tend to forget that the "great" Rick Rubin started and continues to produce rap albums (RUN DMC, Beasties, etc).....
This is your notice that there is a problem with your signature. Please remove it.

  • I dont see what you all have against Timbaland producing the album. I may not be a fan of his music but how can i judge how well he'll do on a rock album, i know for a fact most of Pearl Jam's producers could make a top selling hip-hop album. I like the variation and im willing to give it a chance.
    S'cuse the shit name!

They should just get Brendan O'Brien back. He's easily one of the best producers out there.

People still banging on about that?
  • September... can't wait.

The jeans thing... may be he likes fashion, may be he likes money. I know I like money, so I can't blame him. People here want to bitch about him promoting his albums - WTF. So what if he wants to get his music out there and make money? He certainly hasn't been trying to make the type of music that would yeild him the most sales, so I tend to believe him when he says the music isn't tainted. Don't know what this album will bring, but Cornell seems like he's capable of making really good music that goes beyond "hard rock". Sure his band (SG) perfected "hard rock", but yall keep trying to pigeon hole him. Euphoria Morning is genius and I like alot of Carry On. Carry On is mixed in on my itunes and I find myself liking the songs more and more when they come on. Your Soul Today has played twice today and its a good song. Just heard Immortality, Your Soul Today, Easily - hell yeah... got my beer buzz on, time to go back to work. later haters.
bombs, dropping down, please forgive our hometown

I do tend to enjoy Carry On more when it's laying on random. I think the album was sequenced all wrong, and maybe some of the weaker songs were grouped together - Scar On The Sky and Finally Forever are really too close to each other. But Ghosts, Killing Birds, Your Soul Today, and Silence The Voices are up there with some of his best post-SG stuff.
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

Scar on the Sky is so, so much better with just him on acoustic. I when I first got the cd so many songs seemed to have the same climatic approach. Its better one random, for sure. Some songs are just really good songs: Arms Around Your Love, Safe and Sound, Your Soul Today, Silence the Voices, Dissapering Act and No Such Thing has really grown on me. She'll Never Be Your Man is pretty good too, but what a departure for Cornell lyrically. That song is funny, always makes me think of this lesbian I know that I'm pretty sure is just oppressing her straitness, lol.

Scar on the Sky and Billie Jean both, methinks. I remember when I heard that Unplugged in Sweden bootleg, and Chris had turned Billie Jean into a dark ballad. Then I heard it on Carry On, and he had turned it into a murky, turgid mess. Which was disappointing. But yeah, the songs you mentioned are all good - and were all substantially better when played live, which bodes well. Except She'll Never Be Your Man - I don't know why, that song just doesn't do anything for me.

I think the big kicker for this album is that Chris' voice is back in full swing - it's a matter of seeing how far Timbaland pushes that.

I wish it was produced by Timberland and Magoo.

yeah, I think timbaland will push that to its fullest. One good thing I heard in a Cornell interview was that before this last tour he went back through the SG catolog and realized how complex the arrangement were and realized he'd simplified them since. So, may be thats an element he will add to future releases.

Yeah, some of the songs are istrumental messes. I agree. Everytime She'll Never be Your Man comes on I say, "its the Jessica song".

A little bit of Soundgarden's complexity wouldn't go amiss. Then again, Hunger Strike still ranks as one of my most beloved songs ever, and that's two very simple riffs, and one verse.:p

I think the main point here is that Chris is still very capable of turning out a great record - and working with Timbaland does nothing to decrease the chances of it.

Meh, NIN sounds fucking awesome in a club, so I don't see why it couldn't work for Cornell. He was probably being sarcastic anyway...
