Van Halen...is Eddie the problem here not....

It seems to me in light of the newest van halen which somehow does not include Anthony Michael that after years of bullshit Eddie(maybe his bro too) are the reason for all the difficulties this band has had:

David Lee Roth leaving, returning leaving again and retuning again
Sammy Hagar coming then leaving then coming again then leaving again
Anthony Michael Leaving now Wolfgang VH coming

they sound like a bunch of immature bitches for being 40-50 something
Eddie seems like an egomaniac and it is his way or get the fuck out, and that he is so insecure even though Anthony Michael did nothing wrong he said well fuck him it is my son's turn.

what a waste

Yeah, I believe that it is definitely Ed's problem and/or deal. You'd think the band was named after him or that he was the head of the band. Oh wait...I guess all that is true.

Anyways, yes, I think it fucking sucks ass that we finally get the original singer back, but because his life-long bass player is now friends with one of his other defunct singers (Hagar), he cannot be in the band. That blows big time!!! It is not the real Van Halen without Michael Anthony...not at all.
  • As cool as it would be for Mike to be there too, after seeing them I could care less now. The VH concert was unfuckingreal. By far one of the best concerts I have ever seen. And it didn't seem like anything was different without Mike being there.

did they have recorded background vocals or was someone actually singing background vocals? Same with the keyboard, anyone actually playing it?

Sadly they don't give a shit about the midwest on their tour
  • Atomic PunkAtomic Punk Posts: 2,941
Eddie and Wolf do the backing vocals. The keyboards are pre recorded.

As far as not giving a shit about the midwest, well, they have played Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Kansas City, and have upcoming dates for St Louis, Oklahoma and Nebraska. Not a shitload of dates, but they did not completely shut out the midwest like Pearl Jam did the south.

its very true, Sammy Hagar is probobly one of the most down to earth, coolest people you will ever meet, and the fact that he couldn't work with them says alot, ever wonder why Michael Anthony and Sammy are still on good terms, and still do shows together, but not with Ed or Alex? They are assholes, only tour for money, which is why I didn't go see them, they are pricks, even took Michael out of the original band photo and replaced it with Eddie's fatass son! This tour will not last long, no record will come out and it will take them another 5 or so years to do another "reunion tour". I'd rather go see Hagar solo!

Your argument loses credibility when you thrice refer to Michael Anthony as Anthony Michael
    ;)

But its been widely known for years that EVH has a bit of an ego, and Alex's brother in law who Alex insosted become manager in the 90's is largely responsible for the first departure of Sammy.

Basically Ed and Dave both have massive egos and very different personas and clash quite a bit.
They have a "working" relationship now, nothing more. As a music fan I am glad they have gotten to that point again.

    VERY TRUE.

DLR's voice is nowhere near as good as Hagars.
And Hagar's pales in comparison to Cherone's.
    Its a strange formula.

Who the hell cares if the VH Bros are assholes? I really hate when people say "so and so is an asshole so they suck". 9/10 people in the music biz are assholes. Who the hell cares.

And i'm pretty sure almost every single big band out there tours for money. Really, thats the whole point.

I'm a huge Hagar fan. So i'm not bashing him. I grew up on 5150, and it was the only Van Halen I knew for the longest time. But to be able to see DLR with VH again is special imo. I've seen Van Halen with Sammy. I've seen Sammy on his own. But neither of them even come close to DLR with Van Halen.

Why do people care to see Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, the Police, etc... The spark is gone people. This is 2007, not 1984. These are just money tours (except for Zep). Ed is egomaniace, his son is playing bass, Davide Lee Roth is probably clinically insane. Pop in a CD instead of wasting time on them. I wish they would have come back and nobody cared. Especially since they haven't released anything new.

I'm just tired of these damn reunion tours. If you call it quits, or you are such a douche that you can't keep the band together, you should stay done. These tours are meant to take your money, they are not about playing music. Just look at the Eagles. They'll preach against corporations, but take money from the biggest one (Wal-Mart). Money, money, money. But hey, if you get to hear Ain't Talkin Bout Love like it is 1989 again, go for it.

How is Zeppelin playing now even remotely close to what it was in the 70's? It'd be like Eddie sing Porch when he 61 after taking 15 years off. The time has passed and it ain't coming back (or at least shouldn't).

Ha Ha good rant! I love it! lmao!!

    and so very true...

I'm trying to not buy into these high priced reunion tours on purpose. I saw the Eagles when they first got back together(1st reunion tour) and that was the first time I ever paid $100 for a ticket...it was a great show but I felt ripped off. You mention The Police and that's a great example. I chose to sit home when they came to townx2...their music really mattered to me in the early-mid 1980's...and nothing since...lame to be touring now, if you ask me.

Now if Peter would just get back with Genesis I'd be on that tour for sure!

    Man, I'm sooo confused ;)

I'd say a rather large number of rock stars are egomaniacs, so Ed VH is not alone...personally I'd love it if they came to the UK and gigged with Roth...dream come true time that would be.......Tonight I shall pray to Rob for it to happen.

I saw them twice in October, and it was well worth the ticket price both times.
Who gives a crap about EVH's ego or DLR's ego when they're on stage setting the building on fire. Eddie is in great form, and Dave is sounding better than he has in years.

Sounds good, you're right, people should get real and realise that most rock stars are up their own arses, just some more than others, what does it matter when they come up with the goods like VH do..? Send 'em over here man.

Hopefully they'll head across the pond in the summer. I imagine there should be enough demand in Europe. They're selling quite well in the States.

It would be a very rare treat, I think they supported Black Sabbath last time they toured the UK (Ozzy was still there!) about 79 I think. Then they did Monsters of Rock in 1984, I'm pretty sure that was the last time they played here with Roth, they ain't done a whole lot here at all, but they are popular.

Producer Mike Post said Eddie played the drums on VH3 which is not a claim I remember hearing before.

    Never heard that before either.
Makes a little sense if Al was f'ed up at the time.
I have heard plenty of stories about Ed playing bass parts and having to essentially teach MA how to play the songs he wrote, but never anything about drums before.
Wonder if Al will make mention of it in his book.

Teaching Mike how to play the bass is nonsense. Now Ed played bass on all but three tracks on that album so he might have showed Mike what he played but that’s about it. Ed was very mean to Mike after they kicked him out all because he was butt hurt that instead of sitting around doing nothing he decided to jam with Sammy.
