I'm looking at getting a record player so that I can spin my vinyls, does anyone have any recommendations?

  • my pops got me a rega P1 that i really like. i don't know much about record players, but knowing my dad i think it would be relatively cheap.
if you think what I believe is stupid, bizarre, ridiculous or outrageous.....it's ok, I think I had a brain tumor when I wrote that.

Thanks! I'm a little hesitant to open my vinyls, but what's the point in having them sit on a shelf and collect dust?!

I don't know the exact model # but I have a sony that auto starts and stops. Nothing special but I only paid $75 bucks new 2 years ago. Worth every penny. Check Sony.com, I think it's still one of their top sellers

Check out your local thrift stores...

Your pop has good taste, but cheap he's not. $400 turntable. And that doesn't include the cartridge/stylus. I have a Rega P3.

  • it depends a lot on your budget, the rest of your stereo, and how into this you are. If your amplifier or receiver doesn't have a built in phono stage, you will need one as well. If you want to pm me with your set-up I'll give you a bunch of suggestions. Rega are really great turntables, really reliable, simple, easy to set-up and easy to resell if you ever want a better one. The P1 is really good for the money. The P-3 is amazing. Turntables can be a bit finicky and tricky to set-up initially. If you can get over that and don't mind some ticks and pops, they can sound really good, way better than cd players costing 5 times as much. You can definitely get some good stuff used. Check Audiogon.com if you are in the U.S. or http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/ if you are in Canada.
  • So.... I picked up a turntable, and got it all setup on sunday. The next part was tough, but I removed the sealed plastic from all of my first pressing Pearl Jam LP's (Ten, Vs., Vitalogy, Lost Dogs, Riot Act, Avocado), and got Yield and No Code out of the sleeves I had them in. I sat Ten on the turntable, and let it spin..... I was blown away! After listening to Ten, I sat Vitalogy down, and was still blown away... The sound was incredible, so I had to give No Code a spin.... I think I'm addicted to vinyl now!! I still have quite a few lp's to listen to, but it's definitely a much richer sound than a cd or digital file.... Now if only i could find a copy of binaural!
  • Man binaural is a really good one on vinyl.......
  • anybody ever record their vinyl onto CD?

  • Guitar Center sells some great turntables. You can get a very good professional quality table for under $200. Stanton makes some very good ones. Go for a direct drive, as opposed to a belt drive (like Sony) Dont get me wrong, Sony makes quality electronics, but buy a turntable from a brand that specializes. Stanton and Numark are decent. Stanton T.60 is around $150 I think and it is a GREAT table.
