NIN: Beside You In Time

Just picked up this DVD the other day. I've been meaning to get it since it came out but haven't gotten around to it. But, I must say, this is one of the best concert DVD's I have ever seen. Just absolutely amazing. I mean I like NIN, not so much to go and see them live, but now that I've seen this DVD, I have such an urge to go see them. Trent's intensity on stage is just absolutely powerful and can only be matched by few. They literally have you up for the whole time. And despite the awesome performance, it is shot wonderfully. Great camera angles at numerous views. One of the best highlights has got to be during "Terrible Lie" when Trent and co. destroy everything on stage. It's great. I suggest that if you're a NIN fan, have one of their CD's, even if you just like one of their songs, go buy this DVD. You will not be sorry!

Anyway, here's the tracklist:

01. love is not enough
02. you know what you are?
03. terrible lie
04. the line begins to blur
05. march of the pigs
06. something i can never have
07. closer
08. burn
09. gave up
10. eraser *
11. right where it belongs *
12. beside you in time *
13. with teeth
14. wish
15. only
16. the big come down
17. hurt
18. the hand that feeds
19. head like a hole
* includes alternate angle

Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
Butthead: Huh huh.

Are you actually a NIN fan? This song sticks out like a sore thumb on The Fragile. It can be fun to hear live every now and then, but it is by no means their best song.

If you are a fan, and out of the entire catalogue, this is honestly your favourite song, then fair enough. But if you are a casual listener, please check out more by NIN. In my opinion, Starfuckers has no place in my top 20 NIN songs.

As for the DVD, it's good, but not spectacular. I prefer And All That Could Have Been. It just seems to me that there's just something about seeing NIN live that can't be captured on a DVD. The feeling of seeing them was not recreated for me when watching this DVD. I still enjoyed it a lot though.

Maybe because it's very far from their best tune.

this is by far my favorite live dvd. when i watched this the first time it was late and i planned on a few songs then turning it off. i watched the whole thing instead. i wasnt expecting as much as i got from this dvd so that was nice. i saw nin in 05 and so i had an idea what this might look/sound like but it still blew me away.
i guess something had to top touring band sooner or later. maybe now pj will put out a great live dvd. i think the last two were kinda weak.

Saw them twice earlier this year, but one show was cancelled. It was rescheduled for August, so i'll be seeing them again then.
