i love blur...such an underrated band

i tend to like their sad songs the most...this is a low, resigned, tender...damn, listening to tender after a breakup is painful
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

    i've always loved blur.
The great escape is maybe my favorite of their albums.

i've got their best of and it's pretty excellent. but i can't get into their albums. same with gorillaz. damon's singing always sounds... well, like an american doing a horribly over-the-top charicature of a british hooligan. the albums were always kinda hit and miss for me then. but their best songs are pretty amazing.

i'm sure it's affected. but it still annoys me. i get the same reaction i get to paul mccartney... when he's on, it's some of the best music i ever heard. but there are times in between when he's making some of the lamest, cheesiest crap i ever heard.

  • I love Blur too. It's a shame that it looks like they're done for good. I hate how they never made it over here to the scale of Oasis and that if you say you're a Blur fan to the average person, all they'll think of is Song 2.

I like Blur, but their albums are pretty hit and miss. Saw them on the Think Tank tour (if you can really count that as Blur), and it was a great gig. To be honest, I think I'd be kinda bored of them by now if I didn't see how great the songs are live. Damon's contraversial accent does get a bit annoying on some songs, but those are the ones I don't really listen to anymore. Can't hear the accent at all on any of the Gorillaz songs though

As for Alex Turner, Arctic Monkeys are obviously retreading the steps of Blur.

ah, see, i dig the arctic monkeys. they're fun, like blur without the pretensions. i might just be letting 'parklife' get to me. i'm not huge on spoken word. parklife reminds of that annoying as shit band 'the streets.'

they had this really trite and ham-handed song comparing stoners to drunks. sure, it was true. but man was it tedious to listen to.

I've listened to Blur off and on for about 10 years. I don't listen to them all the time, but they can be great fun on occasion.

I haven't had any of their albums on my iPod for a while now - this thread has inspired me to change that. I think I'll throw The Great Escape on sometime soon.

yeah, an old gf loved them and loved playing this song especially to me because she thought it was smart and insightful. and she would get all pissed off if i ever smoked or drank! might have added to the annoyance ;)

  • Blur Rock! Although as was said before though, the albums can be hit and miss.
I'd say End of a Century is probably my favourite song.
